I just can't warm to a camera without a viewfinder. Optical preferred, but if an EVF is excellent or better, OK.

Haha!! I used to say as well...The Ricoh GR changed my mind.
Large sensor with wide lens and fast refreshing LCD is a relatively new territory.
It's really a lot like composing on a brighter than daylight ground glass.
I was surprised with the GR ...having always hated Back lcd composition prior to trying it.
Great DOF and wide view changes everything.
I'm not sure a longer Focal length than 28mm equiv. would be as compatible.
This Fuji model adds a traditional shutter dial and aperture ring as an interface....
It's late to market but could still be a real winner.

I agree completely. LCD works great for 28mm and wider IMO. I think the Fuji is interesting because of the tilt / touch screen. It really could make it more interesting than the GR for that reason. I wonder who will have the balls to put out a 21mm version of this type of camera (like the Ricoh GR21).

WELL Little Miss Sunshine ... I am persuadable. I will sheepishly admit to even using the LCD on my X-Pro1 to composing and shoot. I do it in tight situations where the subject is well below or above me and I can't really move enough to get the shot otherwise. (Never interpret that to mean "My butt is on the couch and I am just too ****ed lazy to move and the dog is right there beside me and looks so cute so I have to make a picture of her so I will just use the ***n LCD like a tourist.)

True for the most part, but I do photograph in very dim light at times with higher shutter speeds.

Looks interesting, but still not the 28mm compact that I would buy. It looks like it has a fixed pancake, unlike the GR and Coolpix A that have retracting lenses -- I hate retracting lenses, so that's one plus for the X70. Physical aperture and shutter dials -- check and check. But it lacks the simple addition of a manual focusing ring with distance info. That's one big minus for me. And no EVF. A small minus. Even my crappy Voigtlander Vito Auto has both.
Still hoping Olympus will finally come to their senses and give us Digital Trips, with 40mm and 28mm lenses.

I am not sure I follow on this one, outside of u wanting an Olympus as opposed another brand maker. Isn't there already equivalents out on the market like
- 14 or 20 pancake lenses on
-- Olympus epl or Panasonic gm bodies
Or are u suggesting something like the old film Minolta Dual...
Or 2 different fixed sensor bodies

I think Olympus doing it is the point—it would be fun to see how they iterate on the Fuji X100, Leica Q, Sony RX1-type concept, especially since they were so good at it in the film era.

if the filter thread is 49mm then maybe the Ricoh GW-3 will fit on the X70 😉

In those situations, yes. I think that for most of what Frank and I do, the DOF of super-wides allows zone focusing, especially on a smaller sensor. I was thinking about this today, how my Zuiko 21/2 on the X-Pro1 (yes, I know I'm again taking this thread OT - last time I promise!) makes up a decent street machine using hyperlocal distance shooting with a 35mm equivalent of ~32mm FOV, about half way between 28 and 35, highly useful for street and certain other genres.
