X70 with pics

Have to admit, even as a enthusiastic Ricoh GR series user, the Fuji X70 is catching my eye. Sufficiently different due to the physical shutter and aperture controls, the tilting touch screen, and the potentials of the X-Trans II sensor.

Superfluous for my needs? Indeed. Intriguing as the next new shiny thing? Absolutely.

It seems to be following in the traditional of the GR w/ the 21 fov wcl same setup as the gw3 on the GR. A bit bigger than the GR but the touch screen and physical controls are a plus to be sure. It inherits the AF improvements of the xt1..so all good.

Yeah, I've ordered one... I think I'll enjoy it more than the GR. I don;t think I'll go for the 21mm attachment though.

have to admit that initially i wasn't interested on this but now im intrigued, might put my name down at The Camera Store later today if it arrives before mid-March.
will use it on our Asia trip then maybe sell it afterwards.

main selling point for me is better dust sealing than the GR, although I still need to understand how 'snap' or pre-focusing will work on this camera.
was initially interested on the VF-X21 viewfinder as well but then read how much it will go for (US$300+), looks like a Voigtlander VF but might as well get the Ricoh GV-1 adapter for 1/3 the price

As an owner of a Ricoh GR that currently has no intention of buying a x70.. There are advantages to the x70
- retro controls
- Fuji film simulation
- potentially faster af due to phase detect af cells
- flip screen
- touch af and release
The biggests advantage for Ricoh
- smaller footprint for front pocket carry
- snap shooting
- never liked Fuji custom saved setting implementation - Ricoh customs setting wins by default

It would have been nice if they had implemented the x70 using their new 24mp sensor. I think this is where Ricoh GR2 made a mistake as well. I actually use crop 35 a lot on my GR and would have picked up a GR2 if it was a 24mp.

Via zone focusing....since the X70 has manual focus modes, you just set it at 6 feet or whatever other measurement you want and it'll effectively be the same as snap.

Quite true..just an extra step..whereas the GR is just snap shoot at your default distance...could be the difference time wise.

True, especially since you can have half press snap and full AF. I have admit, that I don't use snap with the APSC version. It's not precise enough for my liking.

I've been shooting almost exclusively with my GR for the past couple of weeks.

This is going to have to be very special to temp me away.

I think I'm just hoping that it's going to push GR prices down, and I'll grab a backup

Dont u mean the gw3 adapter?

Gary

no, by GV-1 im referring to the 21/28 aux viewfinder that Ricoh sells (snagged one for 86$ on ebay an hour ago).

have no intention on using either gw3 or wcl-x70 adapters as 28mm is wide enough for me.

going to put my name down for the x70 tomorrow at the camera store

Ahhh i c..

If I didn't already have the original GR.. I would be tempted...especially if the af is faster.

Enjoy

Panasonic GM5 + Panasonic 14/2.5 or 20/1.8. Just sayin... 😀

Huh?

I'm waiting for X70 details information and sample result (new X-trans sensor, like XPro2?)

Buy Ricoh GR, mode: postponed 😉

I wouldnt mind getting another GR if only they would improve the sensor dust issue as I've had bad luck with mine.
I'm buying the X70 for my upcoming trip to asia in March, if I end up liking it great I will keep it, if not I'll resell it and maybe buy another GR.
Sold my X100 yesterday to fund the X70.

No, old X-Trans like the X-T1, X-E2, etc.
Anyone seen a release date?
Nothing yet but I'm hearing late February now.
I'll let you know once I go to The Camera Store during my lunch break.

well unfortunately TCS has no info regarding the X70 yet, they take pre-orders but it's not even on their system yet.

No definitive date or pricing at this info.
their website states the price to be CAD$899 which is roughly around US$620, I'm hoping that's the price
