I just got my Xa today and am having some trouble. No matter what F stop I set it at, the shutter stay open for at least 15 seconds. If I set it on flash mode, it opens and closes quickly like it should. I just installed new batteries. Thanks for any help.

I really hope it is'nt dead. I bought it from an older man who said it worked fine. It was only $35 bucks with a11 flash, but I'd feel kinda bad calling him and asking for my money back.

Give it A LOT of exercise - fire the shutter and wind on many times. Mine had the same issue and it has cleared up now. It might help.

Hmm, I'll give it a shot. The man I bought it from said he hadn't used it in a long time.

I have seen a lot of XA's with that defect. Usually means that the ceramic part of the circuit board is cracked. John, www.zuiko.com

If I´m not wrong the flash setups the camera at f4 and 1/30, so it might be some problem with the exposure meter which is causing your problem...

Cracked ceramic (which is on the back of the shutter plate) also causes XA's to be in self timer mode permanently. Crack can usually be seen by removing the front plate and viewing with loupe. John, www.zuiko.com

How can I fix it? Is their a way? It is not in self timer mode, it is just a long exposure.

How many is enough?
XAs are not easy to work on nor reassemble due to several reasons including small size, small parts, and original construction/assembly methods to keep it small and relatively low cost. Send it back for a burial, it's dead.

That happens when the ceramic part of the XA circuit is cracked (it's mounted on the back of the shutter plate and is partially visible when the front lens trim is taken off). The other symptom of cracked circuit is when the camera always fires as if set to self timer mode. Circuit could be replaced (I still have a few) but total repair price would be more than buying a good XA in full working order. John, www.zuiko.com
