Even when the lever is in non-operate position. Every time I depress the shutter button I get the self timer kicking in. Any suggestions? The battery is almost new.

It seems that the self-timer select switch is always "on". It may be dirt or a bronze spring that needs alignment, or (worst) an electronic problem (this seems unlikely) If some gentle tapping near the self-timer lever does not solve the problem, you'll have to open the camera to check the self-timer switch, or send it for repair.

If you decide to DIY, there is an XA repair manual here .

Taking out the bottom plate is not hard (it is four screws plus the one below the self-timer and battery check level). You'll probably have to take out the sliding door as well. Beware of the sliding door roller, it is easy to lose.

I attempted repair on my XA2 on a harder problem and decided not to complete work, but documented the steps I took here.

Good luck!

same problems to me and I have tried to open up the bottom plate and test all combination of the switch, still not work. Anyone have other ideas?

I had the same thing happen to me. I was told that it was a problem with the electronics, something about a hard to replace part going bad. I ended up selling it for parts.

cracked circuit

cracked circuit

On the back of the XA shutter plate there is a flex circuit with a small ceramic circuit board soldered to it. The ceramic part is cracked. Usually the crack goes through the printed reistor area of the EE adjustment, in most cases the crack cannot be "jumped". Ceramic circuit was never available separately and there are 2 or 3 different types. Another indication of cracked XA circuit is when the shutter slways stays open for like 10 seconds, no matter what it's set to. John, www.zuiko.com
