I just bought an XD-11 for dirt cheap. Tossed some batteries in it but there seems to be something wrong with the shutter.

All the speeds sound the same. I go from 1000 to 1 and there is no difference in sound or delay. Bulb works fine. It also works in "O" mode, which the manual states works without the battery. That's 1/100 sec. Judging by the sound, it seems to be firing at that speed no matter what I choose.

My second XD-11 didn't work very well until I used it quite a bit. It was left for too long unused.

Did you play a bit with the film speed knob?

Just to make sure, the O and B settings feel a little different. You have to push the shutter button a bit deeper to release the shutter with them. Do they feel the same as the battery operated speeds?

It's hard to tell from your video, but I have once remarked that the XD-11 shutter doesn't sound the same in the automatic modes if the camera can't guess the correct exposure, like in very low light levels. Your shutter seems to sound the same on all modes though.

Interesting you pointed that out. I do need to add pressure to release the shutter in O and B.

I pointed the camera at the window then down at the floor to change the exposure in automatic mode as well. Never-the-less, they all the sound the same.

Take out the batteries and see what happens? Maybe the shutter has 1 speed when there is no power....

If the problem is electronic, there is probably not much to do about it. From the video, I can see that you have the oldest version. Could you post another video, with the back door removed so we can see the shutter action?

Try also to play a bit with the film speed and exposure compensation lever (currently at - 2 according to your video), firing the shutter at different speeds.

Interesting, thanks for the suggestion. I opened up the back and noticed that the "O" setting is slower than the rest of the shutter speeds. Or at least is seems that way. I can see the rear element of the lens when I fire the shutter in "O" mode but it's too fast for me to see on the other shutter speeds unless I shine light through the lens.

I sent an email to Garry's Camera Repair describing the issue. Hopefully it's something that I can get fixed.
