my xe1 will not let me turn on the 'macro' function…it shows a pic of the camera with a lock and says locked.
clearly i changed a settiing somewhere as i have been able to turn on the macro function before (lots).
can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong now…i cannot figure it out!

Does this change if you change lenses? I'm wondering if there are any of the XF or XC lenses that simply won't 'do' macro.

not the lens…the lens, when on my other body is fine.
another lens on the 'problem' body will not allow macro.
it's the body.

Weird. I just tested mine with the 18-55. I thought it might be that the camera was set to MF but mine would still go into macro even though the macro indicator disappeared when I pushed the shutter button.
Out of curiosity, have you tried pushing the flower button twice to activate it?

So it appears to work fine in every mode except macro? MF and AF?

I have not had this particular problem before, but I did have a problem once where for the exact same setting (can't remember what off the top of my head), the behavior was different between my xe1 and the xp1 (one was not working correctly). I ended up doing the reset to default after trying everything I could think of.. Once I did that and reconfigured it, everything worked as expected.
The only thing I can think could have happened some config flag has been corrupted, in my particular case. Hope u don't need to resort to this.
Anyway good luck w/ your problem..

sounds like you've locked out the back wheel. This is done by pushing and holding the OK button for several seconds. You unlock it by repeating the process. I apologize if you already knew this.

its not a bug, its a feature

It's a useful feature if you can't keep your paws off the macro button. You can activate the macro by pushing the button twice unless you lock it. been there and done that.

I completely agree. You can set it without moving the camera from your eye if you use the 'push twice' method.i use the macro quite a bit for some of my market shots.

My wife was shooting some birds and got it into the macro mode without meaning to do it. Much angst occurred. That's when we learned about the lockout mode.
