Xm1 plus 27f2.8 or 35f2

So I've been thinking about getting an xm1 for the flip LCD. Putting the appropriate ovf on it and either using the 27f2.8 or eventually the 35f2 on it.

I was wondering how many of u have or had used the xm1.. Would like to hear your comments about using it..

Gary, this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I'm finding I really like the experience I'm having with the X70. I'm posting this just because of the flipscreen feature. I'm not missing a viewfinder at all, especially out on the streets. I find using the flipscreen a much more relaxed way of approaching street photography. No one really pays attention to what I'm doing. Other benefits: with no viewfinder, the camera is SMALL and lightweight... a real carry everyday camera. I'd assume the XM1 with the 27 or 18 would be similar. With the 35/2, it might seem to bulky to be an easily pocketable kit.

That plus things like the af.. On the sigma DP cameras, there is a af confirmation light that can be seen while using the ovf.. How is this accomplished for xm or xa series?

Also overall satisfaction using the setup.

Anyone try the 35f2 on the combo? Is af speed noticeable vs the 27?

I have the XA1 and use the 35/1.4 on it almost exclusively.
At some point I may get a 2/35 but i doubt it. Not shooting enough to justify a purchase.

The 35 is a better focal length for me and has close focus ability.
The 27mm was very sharp and clean but just plain boring. I would in fact choose the 2/18mm over the 27mm.
Plus I could not use the 27mm super close in so it was not good for my real job where I need nearly macro often.

The af of the 27 was ok. It's noisy and sort of grind. The new 2/35 is beautiful and quiet.

I use an XM1 with the 27. I got it because I wanted something small and discrete for street shooting with an LCD at chest and waist level. I use it as a P&S and think it works great for that. I don't experience any "grind" in the 27, but it's a little noisy, although that's not an issue on the street.

I just started using the 35 2.0 on my X-Pro1 and haven't thought to try it on the XM1. Not for any technical reason; it would just defeat the intention of small rig.

The XM1 must be about the cheapest entry point to X-Trans. Pretty amazing, I think.

I was actually debating three different things here..
- get the xm1 or
- the xe2 or
- new 35f2

In the end, I decided the 35f2... While the xm1 fills a niche of pseudo rf like small package w/ a flip LCD screen that my xt1 doesn't in terms of overall size. At the end of the day, faster af speed,of the 35f2 won out.

I crossed the xe2 off the list because I thought waiting for xe3 was probably the better choice and the af improvement of the 35f2 maybe just good enough for me.

xe2 with upgrade is a very nice camera…xm1 can be had for 200 bucks…the lens is sweet…pretty much a winner no matter how you go.

can the xm1 be used with an external finder and have the camera set up to 'beep' when in focus?
i have a 50mm finder waiting in the mail at home and plan to use the 35/2 with xm1 and the finder.

Yes, I used the XA1 with a finder and the 27mm in the time I had it.
Was actually pretty darn satisfactory to use as center focus, hold half press, and re-compose.
Not bad at all.
Did not try with a 35(50fov).

I did not use the beep. You can here the lens lock and feel where the shutter button was holding at half press.
I don't like the beep. Did not even think of trying to use it.
Maybe the 2/35 is too quiet for to use without the beep???

I'm of the opinion that the wider the lens, the easier to use with an LCD and/or external OVF. I'd go with the 27mm.

don't have a 27 and don't want to buy any gear atm...
i could use my 23 but have not been able to find a 35 external finder yet...

Try it with the 50mm. You may not even like the workflow. For one thing, you can't turn the lcd off(xa1 anyway). It's something that's handy if viewing the lcd is difficult but not really for full time use in my case. I need prism reading glasses for close objects...so the vf was handy when I could not get the camera far enough away to be in my normal visual focus range.

might not work for me...using the external finder...seems my eyes have soured some since i last used one. it's quite fuzzy at most positions at my eye...will have to do a walkabout and see what transpires.
