XP2 in Diafine!?!?!?!?!?

I was just looking at my diafine box, and they say that XP2 should be shot at EI 200 for processing in Diafine. I thought this odd, as XP2 is a chromogenic black and white film, not a traditional emulsion. Does anyone know what the explanation for this is?

Explanation? No. I have done it, actually by accident (long story). I do not recommend it; the grain is horrible; some of them looked OK, but even the ok ones were disappointing. You'd be better off rating XP2 at 200 or 800 and asking your lab to process at that speed, rather than to develop in Diafine. Trust me.

It works, I've done it. IIUC, and I may well not, there are two developements in the C41 process - the first one is a conventional developer and it's not till the second one that the dyes are processed. In this case you're simply only doing step one.

You can develop any C-41 film in conventional b&w developers, by the way. You lose the color and results usually aren't very good, but sometimes it's done in an emergency.
