Xpan Trial

A few months ago I tried out an xpan for fun. Finally got a lab that developed and printed and scanned, at 35mm cost. Very cool. Funny though, when I picked up the prints I was told, “I thought they would be landscapes, not portraits!” Kinda neat.

I tried it with the 45mm and the problem was distance to subject. I think the 90mm would be awesome!

Hi notx, yes that comes with the wide angled nature of the lenses, and added panoramic format to make things worse/better.
I have the 90mm also, but for me its like its too close, and not wide enough, especially for landscapes.
The best way to battle the 45, and although not always possible, is to get closer to your subject. As i have said in another post, i often still get caught out by the subject being somewhat close to me, and even looking close in the viewfinder, only to get the tranny back and it looks MILLLESS away.
You just gotta challenge yourself to get closer to your subject, and try to visualise what the final outcome is gonna look like from where your actually taking the picture. If in doubt, i guess move closer 🙂

The Xpan is an amazing camera. I love mine so much that I gave up a Mamiya 7II twice because I like it so much.

It wasn't just the distance, I was doing shots from thight to head. So I would end up nearly walking into her bust🙂

Have you done any full length portraiture with your 90mm?

I also tried the xpan out a month ago for fun. Well it ws more than fun, so I ordered one as a backup and 'wide angle' to supplement my Leica kit. Quite a camera!
