Xpan w/35mm f3.5 Mamiya Lens

So, a while back I had the idea of seeing if my old 35mm f3.5 lens could be mounted to my Xpan for a little bit extra wideness. So over Xmass I ordered a Xpan to Nikon f converter and a Nikon to Mamiya (M645). The results were decent, but not quite a good as I would have liked. Here is the basic results:

As you can see, the change between 45mm and 35mm does add extra room to the shot, but even as a wide angle medium format lens, it doesn't quite handle all two frames across the 135.

On the good side, this is far cheaper then the Xpan's 30mm kit.

Interesting... Thanks for sharing. Where did u buy the xpan adapter from? I would love to have a fast 1.4 lens to use in non-pan mode.

Epay for the two converters.

Down side with this any other lens is that they do not sync to actual rangefinder, so all your shooting focus is scale shooting.

The xpan frame width is 65mm, 6x4.5 width 56mm. So the image circle of the lens isn't quite large enough, hence the vignetting.

Maybe adapt a lens for 6x6 or 6x7 🙂

Bummer, scale only... 🙁. I assumed the Nikon would end up scale focusing, but I was hoping there would be a adapter for a m mount lens to xpan that would have rf coupling.

Someone did custom one off for Leica R 50mm summicorn to Xpan last year. Check flirckr or here. But I remember him saying that R lens didn't quite cover two frames either.

I can't think of any 6x6 or 6x7 camera's that are focal plane off hand. Plus I can't think of any that also have 35mm or wider lenses.

The Pentax 35mm for the Pentax 67 is a fish eye, which I'd pass on.

Thanks. Kind of remember that now that u brought it up... But I am not using the xpan enough currently to justify a custom adapter. I am ok w/ normal 35mm framing. I really want a fast lens for it w/ normal image circle so one body could be used for everything.

I used to own a 50 Cron-R adapted to X-pan, it didn't quite fill the entire frame, but it had RF coupling.. I sold it to another member here, I enjoyed the lens, and as a decently fast 50 it served me well. (I used it primarily for 35mm mode)

In all this, it has to be remembered that the X-Pan 30mm has to be used with a centre-spot ND filter. Using one will distinguish more clearly between vignetting and lack of coverage.

The Fujica GM670 would at least qualify as yet another interchangeable lens rangefinder - but like the Mamiya 6/7, its FP shutter is auxiliary (to enable lens changing with film loaded), it has leaf shutters in the lenses. Widest lenses are 50mm, though - and these are rare and expensive. Besides, no Fuji G to Xpan adapters seem to exist.

Leica M can´t fit in the Xpan, they have a very little distance between the lens and the film, its one of the caracteristics of the leica M system. It would be marvelous to put one carl zeiss 80 f2.8 for the hassel slr system to the xpan...
