Not sure if anyone knows but I've just finished up my first 6 months of developing b&w film :)

I started with Xtol, thanks to the advice of some cute salesgirl at Samy's. Having run out of the developer, I just bought a new 5 litre package, and, getting ready to mix it, I read the instructions.

Apparently, I'm supposed to end up with 5 litres -- about a gallon and a quart.

Scratching my head here.. because.. well.. when I did this the first time back in september, I ended up with exactly 1 gallon. Apparently I did not read the instruction carefully! Reflecting upon what happened.. I got my mixing all messed up as I used a 500ml jar to measure in the water, so I think I missed the last litre (used 8 instead of 10 jars of water).

Here's when it gets a bit confusing for me: all development times were followed off of that digital truth web site for xtol 1:1, and all my results were fine.

So now I'm staring at this new package.. do I mix up so I have 5 litres, or should I do a 1 gallon treatment again? :D

Is xtol that flexible, or maybe my choice of film? (mainly acros and trix thus far).

I honestly don't know what to tell you. I wouldn't imagine that losing 1.2 liters in dilution wouldn't yield a result but...that's what you got.

Regardless, mix to 5L. If you start going off on your own dilutions that'll get complicated.
