Hi,
I bought 2 different Yashicas 35 GSN, unfortunately I have some problems with both of them.
1st one - at the beginning it was working nice but one day it started to operate only on 1/500s (also on "B" shutter speed). Battery check is ok, light meter shows yellow arrow only. I replaced pad of death. What else can I do to fix it?
2nd one - Everything is working fine except two things. When I take pictures with longer exposure times I must keep the release button pressed down until the shutter action is finished. I know that it's not normal in case of this cameras:bang:. The second thing - when I push the release button the under- and overexposure arrows are blinking and a strange noise (like groan) comes from the camera body.
I also replaced "p-o-d" in this camera.
Maybe You have any ideas how to fix my cameras?

1st seems like POD has deteriorated after some use. You changed POD on second camera, not this, right?
2nd seems like need adjusting rod under release button. This is what I had with my G35 (described earlier in this forum).
Buzzing noise comes from lens barrel? Try moving aperture ring forth and back several times, sliding contacts may self-clean - do sound decreases?
If in body, then main switch is oxidized, most probably. First aid would be to do some 50 idle shots (without film), same cure to contacts. Otherwise there are sprays for cleaning oxidized contacts, variety for gold-plated contacts is available, too.
Maybe someone with knowledge can comment on this sprays - they were about usd20 locally, so I didn't buy them.

And what material you used? Is it still in place?
Only reason of permanent 1/500 I can think is POD.

I used 2mm thick rubber. It works well in other electro 35 gsn. Is still there, gives a nice clunk.

Hmm...hard to tell. One thing for sure is that my beater GSN gave audible clunk on arrival, though POD appeared to be gunky mess when I removed top cover.
Not that yours is rotten so soon, though. I also used 2mm neoprene (or 1.9mm???) washer and it works well. Maybe try adjusting rod under shutter release (make notes on initial pos. and how many times you turn it) - accessible when bottom cover removed. Main switch is not engaging fully, "yellow light only" is my guide.

Yeah, I still use film...
The clunk doesn't necessarily mean that the POD is OK, unfortunately. It's possible for there to be enough goo left to allow the rod to latch at the down position. The rod should latch just as the shutter is tripped. When the winding lever is moved the rod is released. This is why the clunk occurs. Sooner or later, the POD will deteriorate enough so that the rod no longer latches.

I hope you are right, and this isn't any electrical problem with shutter.

Yeah, I still use film...
This sounds to me like the shutter release arm contacts and brushes are dirty. I just had one that acted similar, and it was fine after the contacts were cleaned...

How do you get at the contacts and POD on a GSN. Is it through the top or do you have to take out the lens assy.?

You must peel off the front leather and take off the lens in order to replace the POD.
Peeling off the leather is easy, as well as gluing it back.
The most tricky part is to dismantle the lens part from the body, while taking care of the wires.
When you want to install the lens part back to the body, you have to adjust by trial and error in order to make a perfect installation.
It's too difficult if not impossible to completely remove the original rotten POD and stick a new one into the original place.
