Hi all,

I had a Yashica 35 Electro laying around, trying to fix it.
The Symptoms were:
  • Battery indicator works
  • When pressing the shutter, the orange light shows but much weaker than the battery indicator
  • The red light would never light up even if it should
  • Shutter would always be the maximum speed, no Bulb and no auto exposure
So I used the Internet to learn about the POD (Pad of Death) and went all-in to fix it. It's much nicer now. But what I did not find was this advice:

Check the battery orientation.

Seriously! The battery-indicator doesn't care about the orientation! And the battery-replacement that I used looked like it should go in there upsidedown. Well. I admit that I was wrong.

Pretty sure I am not the only one so let me know if you know what I'm talking about 😀.

Cheers!

I don't have a full sized E35 around, but my CC, GX and MC care about battery orientation. Maybe because they are later models and were improved.

Yes, probably. I have the 35 Professional from 1966.
Apart from gummy-oil on the blades it seems to work now. If the 5th attempt with lighter fluid doesn't work, I might need to disassemble it a little further...
