Yashica electro 35 pics?

the Yashica GT (Black Finish) arrived today: Pencil Eraser cleaning of the battery contacts and it was ready to go. Looks like perfect working order, bright lights, right-on VF/RF, near mint condition. Filter ring ding fixed to take a filter was the only mark on it. Loaded and shooting.

A big thank you to all who had adviced me abt the yashica camera. so here's my little yashica project called Lighting Possibilities. Editted only for cropping and color correction, did not apply any sharpening. Film used was Kodak 200HD and Fuji Superia 200.

Thanks Backalley

frankly, i'm hooked to the yashica for now...seems to be in my hands everyday since last week...and you got a Canonet...yeah i like that one too...if there's another RF that i need, will be any RF with a wide angle lens, say 24mm.

I don't know of a 24mm fixed-lens RF, but there is a Ricoh with 28mm that could be useful!

After visiting the Yashica Guys Home Page, it looks like my Yashica Electro is an Early GT model; the door release is on the body (not part of Rewind knob), ASA to 500, little green battery test light near the button, and rounded bottom plate. A guy could go nuts with these variations. Should get the first roll back tomorrow.

The first roll is back: all outdoor pictures and many of the indoor shots came out well. But I learned one big lesson: all of the shots taken with a room light above the camera and lighting the subject came out very dard. Using ASA 400 film, the aperture of the CDS cell opens up almost all of the way. I believe that the light was in the FOV of the sensor, or at least shining and reflecting into it. It was out of the lens FOV. The result was underexposure. I have to remember to "think different" with auto cameras! I am convinced that it is not the shutter; it holds open for long periods when pointed into dark regions. I am thinking a "sun shade" for the CDS cell would be a good idea; such as the one my Hi-Matic 9 has.

Thoughts?

BTW I placed a bid on a user-Nikon SP this week that did not make its reserve. The seller offered it to me at less than the reserve, it arrived yesterday. I calibrated the RF (as required and noted in the auction) and cleaned out the front panel glass. It is a great user, brassing but no dents. I still have to fix the aperture on the really clean F1.4 lens, but I have my 3.5cm on it now. It ran about HALF of what the other SP's have been going for, $900.

Khairi, great shots.
I really liked 'Building', 'The little wizard' and 'A child's view'.
Great stuff.

I scanned in some negatives yesterday. This shot is wide-open, by the window light. It is the first trip to Dairy Queen after Nikki's surgery. Proof that despite the early pictures on the roll that were too dark under window-light that the shutter and CDS cell were working. Pretty good for a $26, 35 year old Camera that thinks for itself.

If this shot does not sell you on a Yashica camera, at least it will make you want to go to Dairy Queen!

And an action shot outside at middle apertures. Used photoshop to lighten up Nikki, the CDS cell registered more of the background even with the ASA dial set to 320 rather than 400. Next time, ASA 200 setting will lighten up the foreground.

First trip to the playground after surgery, three weeks post-op. That is a $600K Tushy on that Swing!

One more, inside low-light. I used Photo-shop to boost the low-lights; the CDS cell picked up the white wall behind Nikki. Next time, I will set the ASA dial to 200 (from 400ASA film) to compensate. Lesson Learned: EV compensations dials are Nice, Memory lock is Nice; on A Yashica GT (or other) use the ASA dial to compensate and make sure to use the film type sleeve!
