These are the first pictures I have taken with my new Yashica GS. They're also the first B&W pics I've ever taken! All shot wide open on XP2 400. Tips and comments would be greatly appreciated as I'm a real novice. Most of the indoor shots from this roll came out very dark, but the ones outside were better, if rather boring.

P.S. I don't think having the negs developed at Morrison's supermarket for £2.75 really helped with the quality of my snaps! I had them scanned to CD at Snappy Snaps and played with them a bit in Paint Shop Pro to make them look a little less washed out.

Cheers,

Greg

Nice shots gregb. I kinda like the dark shots but that's just me. XP2 likes a bit of overexposure. Try some shots at 320 or even down to 200. Whatever works my man. I'd be pumped if this were my first roll of b&w (or even my 100th).

I'll second that! Great shots, I really like the first one.

I like the first one - it really lives up to Yashicas tagline for the Electros "take photos by candlelight"

Was it really that dark, or did you darken it with the scan? Did you steady the camera against anything?

Hi Kully,
It was quite dark in there, but it seems like the negative was very underexposed as well. The original scan looked very grey and washed out so I had to darken it a bit to make it look acceptable. The exposure wasn't very slow, but I think I steadied camera by resting my elbows on a table.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone!

Here's a snap of my boss' dog, Ralph. He's a Basset Hound/Cocker Spaniel cross, if you're interested!

It seems to me the first two marvelous shots show your eye outperforms your instrument, and by far, being your instrument outstanding by itself.

The spaghetti one....wow, what nice would be for me to capture my beloved ones at shuch miliseconds !

cheers,
Ruben
