yashica mg-1

hey,
i'm new here. i saw a yashica mg-1 in a second-hand shop the other day and i'm wondering if i should get it. but i'd like to know the pros and cons about the camera and also sample photos taken with an mg-1. i don't know if this topic was discussed before, and if it is, can someone please direct me there?

I think there are some more details on the MG-1 and how it compares to the Yashica GS in that for sale thread as well. I seem to remember asking some questions about it.

I just got from from eBay @ 2 weeks ago and it looks like new. Downside is, it's a much cheaper feeling camera than earlier Yashica RFs.

I had one for about a year and a half, and I was really satisfied with the camera, provided you know that this one is a lower performer in regard of any Electro 35.
First of all, the lens is 45mm 2.8 instead of 1.7 and this makes a lot of difference, specially in low light situations; the shutter goes only from 2+ secs. to 1/500 which is adequate for most situations unless really dim light. This compares unfavourably with the YE35 as it goes to a max of 30+ full sec. The lens is very sharp and contrasted, and needs almost no hood as it´s deeply recessed into the barrel. I think the lens belong to the Yashica Minister series with some improvements in coating.

As Karen Nakamura says, it´s a good camera aimed to a market of semi pros/ advanced consumer users.

My opinion is that it was something in between the next to come "auto everything 35s" and the serious cameras Yashica made within the 60´s and 70´s. Perhaps it was kind of Yashica´s swan song but we never listened the music.
