yashica parallax mirror mishap

Hello,

I was trying to allign my rangefinder patch but I accidentally turned the wrong screw, which moved what i believe was the parallax mirror? i adjusted the mirror back to what seemed correct but I cant be sure. Will this affect my focus? or just the framing? is there anyway i can fix this?

Which camera is this and which screw did you turn?

sorry, i thought i had stated but i guess i didnt.

its a GSN. and its the one with the flathead slot seen in this picture.

in between the leds and that mirror. it was that mirror moved when the screw was loosened. and i cant tell if i placed it back into its original spot.

The screw adjusts the vertical position of the viewfinder frame so, at worst, your frame alignment will be a bit out. There's no procedure in the manual on how to adjust it. I guess using a ground glass screen in the back of the camera to see what is actually in shot and adjusting the frame lines to match would be the way to go. Otherwise, take some shots and note what is at the edges of the frame and see if the results are as expected.

This shouldn't have effected your focus.

I've recently brought a GS and a GT back from the dead. I adjusted the 1m focus and the infinity as per instructions using a peice of lexan that I sanded with 1200 grit sandpaper. (that's the 'ground glass' for tight arses option). Did not need vertical alignment but I know where the screw is. The problem though is that both cameras had been played with in the rangefinder prior to me owning it and I assumed the left and right alignment was OK but after some test shots I am thinking they are shooting slightly to the right compared to what I saw. I will see if I can adjust this next time I get in a fixitup kinda mood. In the meantime I took some pics of the garage door and did my absolute best to frame it centrally. I'll use this picture when I develop it and the ground glass to compare results before I fiddle with it. I'm trying to rule out the fact that I wear glasses and shoot with my left eye contributing to me looking through the viewfinder on a slight angle if that makes any difference. This will be the last step in the complete rebuilt of these old cameras. I knew nothing about the insides of electros before I attempted the POD fix and both also had stuck shutters which required a complete disassembly of the lens mech. Most people simply wouldn't bother but I have a soft spot for the old Yashica Electro 35.
