Occasionally, I see these come up for sale and my positive experiences with my Nicca 3Ls makes me want to pick one up. I assume that the finder is a similar 1:1 finder with the addition of a set of inner framelines. What I don't know is the quality of the RF patch. The 3L patch is a circle. The YF appears to be a rectangle. Is it soft-edged? What's is like? Thanks!

The brightness of the RF patch in Yashica's in general can vary from camera to camera. A lot of people complain that they are dim and that the viewfinder itself is on the dark side. I personally don't have a problem with them. Any rangefinder is hard to see in dim light, really. I would say just go for it.

The RF patch on my Yashica YF is a rectangle, and has a soft edge. The RF is fairly usable in low light, but is on the dim side, although it is quite clear in good light (at least on my example).

BTW, I would love to have a Nicca 3L- beautiful camera!

That is exactly the info I needed. Thanks.

The Niccas are pretty sweet. But in Japan, when they come up for auction, they go for triple the cost of the YFs. I think that all told I have seen 3 IIILs come up and I bought the two that worked. :D

In spite of the fuzzy circle RF patch, I have been able to focus successfully in low light with the hexanon 60/1.2. Sometimes I focus short, but I'm impressed that this old camera focusses as accurately as it does.

Thanks again,
P
