Yashika 35 GSN Shutter Completely Dead :((

I had this camera for about 2 years. I shot a lot with it last year, but then the shutter died. I tried the B mode and the blades do not open at all. When I rewind the film, the camera makes that characteristic click noise just like it did when the shutter worked.

Has anyone else experienced this before? I plan to open it up and look around, but I am not sure I can put it back together properly, especially given all those cables in the Electro 35. I don't have much to lose though.

PS: my camera also used to eat up those batteries really fast. I would have to replace the batteries every 4-5 rolls or so. Do you think the high current burned some electronics?

Hello. It is not normal at all to have to change the battery every 4 or 5 rolls. Mine will last about 10 or 20 times this!. Have your tried the battery check?. If the battery is dead, then the shutter will act something like 1/500 in "auto" position, in any light conditions (the shutter does not completely open) and it won't move in B, if I remember correctly. It seems that your camera's circuits are leaking current (i don't know if this is the correct term) somewhere. I don't know how this could be fixed. Regards.

Assuming that it is completley dead, ie, nothing no lights flash on, and that you have fresh batteries and the contacts are clean, I would start with the battery wiring.
The wire connected to the top of the battery compartment has been known to become corroded and fall of. You will need to take the top off the camera to access it. Its probably corroded right to the electronics board so it maybe best to replace the whole wire.

The is a pad on the top of the shutter latch, commonly referred to as the pad of death., which may need replacing. A worn pad can cause all sorts of wierd and wonderful happenings.

After that you may need to adjust the shutter release point on the bottom of the camera, and check that the shutter lever is returning far enough to turn the camera off.

I've had similar experiences over the years. The first thing I would do is to remove the bottom plate and then remove the battery compartment - I believe there's only one screw that holds it in place. Check to make sure the white battery wire is connected to the spring in the battery compartment. if not, then resolder it - the spring in the battery compartment has a lead that connects to the white wire. I've found that this wire often has a bad connection or is corroded. I've fixed a couple of Yashicas by doing this. Good luck.

the shutter of mine opens but never closes. i've got to wind of the lever then press the release button again to have it closed, please help..
