YATTA ! Did it !!!

Jon...
probably only here broadcasted the silly YATTA-man?
Aside manga and movies (also the tv series Heroes), I had already knowledge of the Japanese form "YATTA" :)

Bravo. Good job finding a Zeiss Ikon and a Zeiss 35mm f/2. I have both of them, too. They're my favorite combination. Sometimes I only take the two of them on vacation with me. I've never wished I had brought more lenses or another camera.

Since we live close to each other, we should have a Zeiss Ikon outing one Sunday. Or maybe we can get a few others in Northern Italy from RFF to meet for coffee somewhere and then go shooting photos together. If you like that idea, send me a personal message and we'll start coordinating it.

Hi Jon

some more.. I was typing with the smartphone under the rain so I didn't even think it was successfully posted here. I had to put on two LR44 silver batteries ( I have the other at home but wanted to know if it worked or not) and effectively it works :)

It's funny to read the user manual in Japanese and see the carton price tag still in the box as if it was just taken from the shop window :)
I can't compare it with a Leica now, yet the feel looks solid enough and even heavier than I thought at first (with the 35 on)

I'm wondering if Zeiss will recognize the s/n and eventually record the warranty or not.. Let's try !

Apparently the camera got 3 yrs of extended warranty, while for the lens the system is still thinking...
In the meantime I've already loaded the camera with Portra 160 and I'm already shooting a few pics :)

Hi,

I purchased 2 lenses and the camera. Both lenses were registered immediately and the camera only after a few days. No problem.

For those living in Europe (or not too far away), there's a german internet shop that has very interesting prices : AFA-Fotohandel. This is where I purchased my ZI from France. And the service is excellent. They also have bundles at very low prices. I got the 3 years warranty for the 3 items.

Hi Patrick.
I know AFA and the deal I found was nearly 35% cheaper than their best combo deal.
tonight i tried to work with my son ( I took a pic of him playing with FM3A ) but 8 have to figure out if the patch is particularly bright on some backgrounds while looks darker (?) on other colors

Sure. I hope the SLR legacy won't appear too much in them, i have to learn a different approach to the image to get out the most of it.
by the way the first thing that i realized is that NEXT lens will be a 25 or wider )))

Wow ! Some of those taken in the early morning and with kids / women are really gorgeous... is it the area where you live or was it a trip somewhere else ? I assume the woman with glasses is your wife ? Besides, the countryside pics seem to give me some more peace than those taken in the urban area.... naked concrete is something that makes me uncomfortable.
Btw - if I'm allowed we have a proverb who's also a joke.
Why all cats are "communists" ? Because they always talk about MAO........ (we pronounce it as the Chinese leader of the past century)
About me, yesterday and this morning I realized I made most of my pics between 1/4s and 1/30s and stopped down to f/4 due to the low sensitivity film.. besides I have to be careful because I noticed I tend to leave the camera on !!!
Another thing I noticed was (obviously for you, less for me) the different "click" of the Ikon compared to the SLRs, especially the FM3A where the back-hit of the mirror is more pronounced. The Ikon sounds more like a "tluk"

ciao dino,
the pics taken with epson/biogon show a village outside lijiang city in yunnan province - that is the part of china neighboring to india (assam) and burma.
these were taken some years ago during vacation.
i live in shanghai, no compare concerning the loveliness of the landscape, but i can assure to you, it is a fascinating city.
and you are right, tha lady with the glasses is my wife.
those pictures were taken with a pentax spotmatic and (mostly) a 55mm takumar lens.
regards,
sebastian

by the way - the chinese word for cat is pronounced --- "mao" (with a constant high tone).
in contrast, the surname of the great chairman is pronounced with rising tone. these are considered completely different. not easy to learn for a westerner ...

another postscript: i found the ZI not to consume a lot of battery energy. leaving it turned on is not too bad. basically it only consumes when the meter is switched on, and during the actual exposure.
still better turn it off in the evening, when you go to bed. :)

Coming back home for lunch I had the opportunity to test on the longer field outside. As far as I see there's a misalignment (images not matching) over 30/50m from me, increasing with the distance (about 25 cm @ 50 m). Should I ask for a fix or above such distances it might become useless due to depth of field?

hard to tell.
if the misalignment is of an effect to 25 cm, at 30 - 50 meters that is hardly noticeable - the commonly assumed CoC of 0.03 mm would result in a dept of field from 12m to infinite with a 35mm at f/2.
with an 85 at f/2, the DoF would extend from 24m to 40m - still far more than 25cm.

considering the adjustment to be a bit more troublesome than with the leica, you may just ignore it.
or you contact the seller for a statement (that's what i would do).

all the best,
s.

At 30 m is just a few cm, yet you can notice the two images don't match. From 50 M onwards there's approximately a feet. I'll report it anyway.

5 days and no picture OF the camera nor FROM the camera! Com'on, man, step up to the plate...and make us jealous !
