Woohoo! I got myself a M2 from eBay just last night. I can't wait to get it! 🙂

Unfortunately, it looks like I've also got a dud Jupiter-3. Well, you win some you lose some.

Aghh - you're killing me - I bid on that very M2, but got pulled away (in the office and didnt get back) -

I'm glad the "win" made it to someone in the RFF.

I expected to replace the covering and end up with a wonderful M2.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Leica M2. I've got one and they are fantasic camera's.
The M3 maybe considered 'THE LEICA'... but the M2 is the ONE to have.

Thanks guys! It should be in early next week, and I'm hoping for the best.

I expected to replace the covering and end up with a wonderful M2.

I plan to do the same too! I'd probably stick with the classic look by getting some of the #4008 leatherette from Aki-Asahi. I thought of repainting the covers, but I don't think I'll have the time.

If it all works as it should, be prepared to have a very very good tool in your hands.

I'm now the proud owner of the M2. I spent the evening cleaning it up with some Q-tips, a toothbrush and Goo-Gone. Lots of dirt removed, and the camera smells citrusy and nice now. 🙂

It's unbelievably smooth, even compared with my CLE. Unfortunately, the viewfinder will need to be cleaned as there's haze inside. That seems to be about the only servicing it'll need. The shutter speeds sound accurate, and the RF is good at near and far.

The really nice thing about a well used, but working Leica, is that you can use it hard and never worry about adding a scratch here or there! 😀

I would have to "second the motion" about having a "user" and not worrying about it.

I am not rich enough to casually buy a brand new $7thousand body&lens , without having a heart attack.

but a user... take it out every day.

I checked with my regular repairman, and it looks to be $50 to clean the viewfinder, or $110 for a basic CLA. I'd probably spring for the latter, but not at the moment. My pocketbook is screaming at me for my recent expenditures. Haha. 🙂
