I've looked at some example shots taken with a yellow filter on B&W film, the effect is really nice and constrasty, anyone know of a good place in the UK to buy these things for a 43mm filter thread? Other thread sizes seems easy to come by, but not the 43mm, even eBay only shows items in the US.

Also, is it worth getting a warming filter for colour film, like an 81a?

Thanks

Garry

If you can't get a 43mm size filter, try looking for a stepping ring that will mate to your lens (43mm) and go for a larger size filter to fit the ring.

Anyone know if using a yellow filter during (analogue) printing have a similar effect? I have a feeling it wouldn't be the same, because you're filtering the b+w output on the film, not the color of the original scene... but I don't know for sure.

It would certainly not do what you want.

You can, however, change contrast during printing either with graded papers or with variable contrast papers and filters.

You cannot change color separation as the color information has long since been lost.

I standardized on 46mm. Step up rings from 34mm, 39mm & 43mm. Don't overlook yellow-green and yellow-orange filters. I use those more than yellow.

A yellow green or light green (X0) filter is an excellent choice for general shooting.
Same advantages as yellow, plus lightens foliage and more pleasing skintones.
