Just a quick hello to everybody,

I started taking photos about 4 years ago and last year, after schlepping 15 kilos of Nikon in a rucksack all over ireland for some weeks, I bought a Bessa R; enjoyed it so much I bought a Mamiya RF 6x6 and finally sold my grandmother to finance a leica. I am using it day and night since.

I am 20 years old, I love photographing people, I very much enjoy jazz and blues music, as well as playing guitar. I shoot mostly on acros 100 & FP4, lately just Tri-X, and soup them myself. My actual darkroom, or rather "really dark bathroom" is not seeing much work anymore though, as I recently bought an epson 1270 and I am currently looking for a scanner...

Anyway, I'll try to load up some photos within the next days and I look forward to being a member of this wonderful forum!

Cheers,

Phil

The going rate for a Grandmother in the US is 1 M6 TTL, or 1 M3 and a beater Yashica GSN!
Welcome Phil and look forward to seeing some of your pics, and which Leica did you get for granny?

Todd

Welcome to the forum Phil! 🙂 You are obviously a canny trader and there are certainly one or two of those here so you will fit right in!

Welcome, Phil! You did manage to end up with some seriously nice gear; too bad about selling granny into slavery, that's a serious case of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). 🙂

Granny was really quite happy to at least be of some use again after so many years of just standing in this narrow closet, we even had her put on a nasty red skirt and matching lipstick to push the price a little.

Anyways, before any of you guys start inquiring about looks and weight I am proud to announce that although she's been married for 50 years she is still as bouncey as a tennis ball and her cooking is fabulous. She also happens to love telling the most naughty jokes to the most tied up guests during dinner. I really enjoy having dinner at Grandma's.

Joe, Todd:
a (then) newish M4-P w/ tabbed Summicron 35 and a minty 90mm Elmarit (newer version w/ pull out hood)
Actually, I bought them together for $1800, which is a small fortune to me and a bargain considering german prices. But since it has already earned half of its original price, I don't get a rash anymore thinking about what I paid.

Peter:
I see it more as a disease but the insurance company seems to have this whole different view ;-)

Doug:
GAS never let rid of me; Earliest symptons were buying way too many guitars, then it became affordable silvery shining old cameras, now it seems to be red dotted, black annodized bricks with windows which unfortunately turned out to be anything but affordable.
The only cure I see for us would be to get flatout broke. But wait, there's credit cards..

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

cheers,
phil

Hi Phil! Welcome to the club. Please show us some of your work as I always like to see photos from different cultural perspectives. By the way Todd, nice avatar! 🙂

Phil,
Welcome to the asylum 😀

Glad to hear grammas' enjoying the trade too. You've got a great kit already.
Be sure to post your pics in the gallery.

Is this your gramma and shipmate, aboard the slave-galley???
