Yosemite + CS3 help !

I had to upgrade my old IMac to a Mac Mini with Yosemite. I was nervous about the compatibility of my scanner (CS 9000), photoshop (CS3) and printer (R2400 substituted now by 3880). Here are the results:
- the scanner works - I have installed the last version of Vuescan, and everything went more or less smoothly on that side
- CS3 works - I am not a PS maverick, but all the basic functions work as before
- the printers don't work - or better: I only print in B&W in ABW mode, and for this you need to be able to set things correctly in the print settings dialog box. The problem is, that I cannot access the menus where you select ABW and all that is necessary do the fine tuning of other parameters like toning, amount of ink, etc.
At first I thought it was the problem with R2400 being too old, but now with the brand new 3880 the problem repeats itself. Now, I need to understand where is the obstacle: in the Epson drivers, or in incompatibility of Yosemite with CS3?
I would be most grateful for ideas on how to solve this.

First, open the App store, and click on the Update button (the last one to the right). If you don't see anything, that means your computer has already a driver for the printer. If something appears, download it and you'll be ready to play.

If you still have the problem and cannot find the printer driver, go to the system preferences app, and open it.

Click the printer/scanner button. It should give you a screen on which your scanner shows up. Click on the + button to add a device. That'll take you to a window that has a drop-down menu in the lower area. Click on it and find the driver.

That's what I did for my scanner and printer. Since I'm guessing you're an Epson user, there should be something in your computer for you. If not... there's a site with generic drivers for almost all types of printers, called Gutenberg. You can google it as Gutenberg generic drives.

If your Mini sees the printer at all try running the Apple update and see if that helps. Hopefully Epson will float a new driver. I have an Epson office printer and have had trouble since the Yosemite upgrade- my iMac loses the ability to connect properly. I use it wireless as we have several computers and users in the house. If I send the file to my iPad (iOS8) it prints perfectly.

Our Windows machines all have to be rebooted and then the printer restarted if the printer has been turned off or has gone asleep (as of Windows 7), so headaches are not only on the Apple machines. Epson's wireless connectivity is spotty at best.

Epson support has been less than helpful with the issue. They did not listen to my description of the problem and spent the better part of an hour having me do the very things that I told them I had already done and would not transfer me to someone who could offer a more advanced level of support. I suspect the root issue is that Epson, at least on the Apple, did not bother to write new drivers for Yosemite but hoped to skate by with the older drivers, which is just lazy on their part. There should be some new ones coming as more support calls come in to the company, not that that helps any of us right now.

On the Macs rebooting the router sometimes helps, sometimes not.

Thanks Francisco, but this does not work, I have updated the drivers, and even reinstalled them just to make sure. It plainly looks like I can only access the most basic canned print settings. On attached image you can see how the printer dialog box looks like. I cannot get into any of the menus at the bottom.

Sorry, Marek... I don't know what to suggest. Besides, you seem to have done all you could do within the case. Now... check THIS SITE out.

It's the site I told you about. When HP stopped supporting my printer (which is very old... from 2004), I got a driver from here. It still works!

I looked up on the Epson support, and in detail, the new driver for 3880 will be released in a date "TBD" - perhaps this explains the issue. I have to investigate, if it is possible to run all my photo chain inside an older version of the OS.

I'd recommend you take a look at this blog post by Wayne Fox, it got me through a rocky transition from my old Mac Pro (on Lion) to my new 27" iMac with minimal difficulty, and all is now running smoothly

Worth pointing out that there is a widely held view that one should NEVER use the Epson drivers that Apple provides: they are not suitable fro the large format printers. In recent years Epson seems to have listened to the users of their printers, and their latest drivers have been good to go at each OS X update for a while now - these are the drivers you can download from either Epson USA or Epson Europe (check which has the latest update and grab it), NOT the Apple-provided drivers.

I just checked and Epson USA has a driver v.9.33 for the 3880 on OS X 10.10 - it should get you printing, though you'll probably want to follow Fox's advice on uninstalling old stuff from your drive before installing 9.33
