D'oh!
Airline tickets. And I'd set aside a few $$$'s to buy film for my Mamiya 7.

$1000-1100 for a used 75mm F2.5 summarit, save the rest until I have enough to get a used M246.

During the oil boom here in Texas, we were getting overtime pay all the time, and raises every 90 days. Then all of a sudden, it busted, seems like it went away over night. A popular bumper-sticker (remember those?) asked "Dear God, please let there be another oil boom, I promise not to piss it all away next time"
Well, I have saved $3000, after paying all my debts, a nice M2 and a few lenses, and dear God, I promise not to piss it all away this time.

Time flies...more than half an year after my previous answer (post 208-226) I think slightly different...1/3 more or less for a better inkjet printer, 1/3 for papers and inks, 1/3 for photography books, so many good authors to be known and studied...

I just realized that I already voted and said that I would buy 2 plane tickets, car rental & food for a week. We spent a week in Vermont in July, and $3000 just barely did it. Travel is expensive!

I did put the idea of turning a van into a big camera but it seems a decent van will cost £3k ++ and more like £5k so $3k for a van is out. But as it is what we will be doing soon, £2k is enough to build out a van to a liveable standard so $3k will be spent on that. It falls into photographic as when done apart from holidays there are various projects that it will be great for.

I am done with accumulating stuff. In fact I sold $5000 of camera gear this month including my back from CCD replacement Monochrom. If I had $3k to spare I would use it to pay for a two week trip to the Southwest (NV, AZ, NM) so I can shoot 100 sheets of what’s left of my Acros Quickload stash.

So many options! Travel to a cool destination would be near the top of my list, too.
If I were to invest it in gear, I'd get a Plaubel Makina 670 to shoot street portraits. Wonderful 80mm f/2.8 lens with a shallow DOF and "compact" enough (for medium format) to carry around all day. Once you start shooting in MF with its incredible tonality and shallow DOF, its hard to go back to 35mm. Since I got my Mamiya RZ67, I barely use my Leicas anymore. But its tough to carry that heavy and big brick around, hence the Plaubel Makina as a (limit due to fixed lens) alternative.

Here's another idea: for $3k, you could print some of your best pictures and frame them, rent an empty store front for a weekend and hold your own solo exhibition with champagne reception! This could be one of the best weekends of your life!

I see Q starting to approach 3K mark now. But I would get Monochrom original. Some are getting sold for close to 3K now.
M8 is 1K camera which works fine with 9$ Industar-69 28 2.8 lens.
M9 is overpriced and so it digital CL. I see zero reason to buy CL for 3K. It is cropper with EVF just like anything else, with nothing special lenses under crazy unreasonable price. Total ripoff for slow lenses like those.
I'd rather get Pen F with lenses build better than Leica CL lenses. Oly has focus scale on DOF at some of their lenses. Leica has nothing on the lens. It looks cheap and primitive.

Best idea so far. Or print a limited edition book.
