your favorite 50mm lens for m

I usually have a Nokton 50 1.1 on my M5, as the M5 pretty much is the only M body that feels good with large lenses. But today I replaced it with the CV 50 2.5 and went out a finished off a roll of film.
Even with a large body like the M5 small lenses feel so much better! Instead of being a behemoth, the camera became a joy to shoot. It was just force of habit that the Nokton was on it, now I'll only use it for when I really need the speed.

Summicron M 50mm v5. Love it with Ektar and XTRA 400, and I bet it's a cracker with Portra 400, too. It sits so nicely on M bodies, I love it on my M7. It just feels right.

I use the ZM 50/2 most. Tried to sell it once, the buyer felt a wobble, sent it back—at which point I learned how to fix Zeiss wobble, apologized to the lens for whoring after heavier 50/1.5s, and sold them.

Summicron 50 Collapsible v1, Leica M3

I did a side-by-side test with my Collapsible Summicron and Asph Summilux last year. The Summicron has been CLD'd, but still does have some residual haze; the Summilux, of course, is pristine.

Performance-wise, the Summicron has some stop-to-stop color variations, is very low contrast, and has some really funky OOF areas (I would call it "character"). But on the sharpness scale they are actually pretty close in the in the center (the Summilux has a bit of an edge, but not all that much).

I had the Collapsible Summicron up for sale until I used it on my daily walk one day - then decided to keep it.

I have to say the 50mm Collapsible Summicron is really fun to use! And BTW, I bought it as an "as-is" - "fix or repair" item about a year ago. The CLA DAG performed was all it took to bring this lens back to life!
