The "Rigid" of course! For his unsurpassed design and quality, and for his very good quality with a bit of the 50's-60's rendering!

My own is 3rd generation "Wetzlar", 6 lenses/5 groups, black paint, made in 1970....
Here, in Italy, is very sought after because is considered the better compromise betwen contrast & bokeh....
In second hand market costs the same of the last version, but I found a barganin on E-Bay so.....
Bye.

I had a 1970 cron.... Sorry I sold it

Stellar Lens ... Wonderful Contrast
Has a Rerro & Modern Edge about
The way it Renders
Congrats 39per1

Bye.

I just bought a V3 for $600. In the US, it seems to be the least desirable 50mm summicron (outside of the collapsable maybe).

..a bargain in any case, even if I paid a bit less a couple of years ago.....in regular shops You pay, now, 700-800 € in Italy!
Underated during "M8" era (somebody says contrast was bad on that camera) the price increased after M9 released....
A safe lens, not so prone to cleaning scratches and haze.....
Bye

I have version 5 and a rigid: totally different. I like the rigid most: it gives the best balance between detail (high!!!) and contrast, but this is obviously a subjective preference.

Leica M3, DR Summicron at 40 inches (without the close-up goggles).

Cropped, no PP.

Bringing it close with Windows Photo Gallery lets you almost feel the texture.
Taken with Kodak Gold 200 - a film often despised.

I kind of miss mine as well, although it might just be the focal length rather than anything about that lens in particular.
Ektar 100.
