Today is definitely a stay home photography book kind of day here in Montreal. I'm not into end of year retrospectives but man, I've gotten some pretty awesome books this year !

Top of my list
Minutes to midnight, Trent Parke (Steidl)
such a good book, cannot be overstated
American colour, Tony Ray-Jones (MACK)
I like surprises like this, I knew little about TRJ and even less about his colour work

what about you guys, any new books that stand out ?
 
Though the book is from 2009 I discovered it this year:

"Prague through the lens of secret police"

It shows how did the secret police followed and observed "enemies" of the regime during the communitst era.
The book has been published by The Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and the photos are from the communist secret police archives. Beside the photos of the observed persons, that are very voayeristic and speaks for them selves, it shows a bit the technology and methods used:
