Your Gear holy grail/silver bullet?

Formally I was a die-hard B&W only film shooter, but Leica made my dream camera when they created the Monochrom, and I have been shooting one for almost two years.

If lightning strikes twice I will also get a Monochrom version of the M-240 (MM-240)when and if it comes out. Already I settled some debt to order one.

I used to have a bunch of cameras I lusted after but never one over them all.
The Mamiya 6 was one of them. Now that prices have come down so far, I own two so I don't have to change lenses. 😀
Other cameras I long to shoot are:
Pentax LX
Hasselblad SWC
Corona 8x10 or 5x7
Linhof 6x12 or wider.

But these days I have the cameras I want. My holy grail would be more time to shoot.
MORE TIME.

That.

I really don't need nor luckily, want any more gear at this point. But I desparately need more time to shoot and work in the darkroom.

Being newly retired, I am blessed with more free time. I'm in need of more energy/motivation to shoot and work in my darkroom.

I don't think there's really any 'holy grail' or 'silver bullet' piece of equipment that would make me a much better photographer, but if a wealthy eccentric were in the mood to buy me a shiny new toy, I wouldn't mind:
An M Monochrom
A Leica 50/0.95
A Cooke PS945.

I think any of those would give me something to play with that none of my existing equipment really offer. True, I can shoot B&W in my M6TTL or convert digitally from my X-E1, but the MM, I think, would still be different enough. I might be wrong, but if anyone really wants to give me one to test that theory...

I'd like a Jupiter 9, a Super Ikonta (any version), and if I could justify getting another 35mm body, an Oly XA (why did I sell my last one?) and a Leica I. None of these are a holy grail to me, but they are the things I lust after when GAS strikes.

Thought it was a Leica Monochrom, but I just had the opportunity and the funds, but decided against it after thinking about why I sold my M9...

Didn't shoot the M9 enough, so how was I going to suddenly shoot an MM more?

I think what I really want is a full darkroom with space for printing/developing and a separate station for wet plate collodion work. I've had makeshift versions of a darkroom before, but it was always about as half-assed as could be...time to upgrade to a real space one of these days...

I am also now retired.. My wife would kill me .. 😛 .. I have too keep all the windows open in the bathroom just to develop b&w negs. She hates the smell 🙁

But the main problem..just too lazy..these days..

Frank, I don't worry about silver bullets but I am saving up for tbe Zeiss 18mm lens for myM4.
I used and quite liked the CV 21 for a few years, decided that I wanted to go wider and tried the CV 15mm. That lens was too wide for me. So, I want to give the 18 a go. Maybe I don"t really want wider than 21 but I need to find out.
As for cameras, I would love to try a Contaflex TLR but I need to hit the lottery first!🙂
I got one of mine today, a Plaubel Makina W67.

What's yours? What gear do you really, really want? Or possibly just got?

Hi Rob - it just so happens I have a ZM 18mm listed in the RFF classifieds. 😀

At some point this year I just got all my silver bullets: a Leica M4 and (yet) another lens... followed by another lens.

Now, since I returned to do my own developing and managed to "restore" one of my computers by adding RAM memory to it, the next thing is to scan the stuff...

Working on it. 🙂

Yes. Yes, you do...who's portrait do you want on the bills I'd need to print?🙂
It is going to be a while before I've got the bucks to start shopping for one.

My first Leica felt like a Holy Grail once. It would give me photos I couldn't get otherwise, or so I thought anyway. Still using it every day but I feel there's a lot of gear out there now that could do what it does. And, just roaming around, there's so much exciting photography, out of any sort of gear, any sort of process. So, I am not enthralled any more, but, in a strange way, I am also liberated from the desire to try the latest and the greatest.

Two ways to look at this right now...The Holy Grail is a fairy tale, and that's all there is to it...Or, alternatively, the Holy Grail was just meant to be the cup you drink from to quench your thirst, day after day after day. If the former, I bought once into a myth. If the latter, I already hold what I need in my hands.
