I think I am coming to the end of a three year constant run of GAS. How long is the longest you have went without buying gear?

Hmmm let me think....
Hmmm let me think....
Because of my hunger for food to eat, and an occasional date, money was an issue from 1958 to 1969, so the current GAS attack started in about 1970.
Put my first money order for a Lust Induced camera purchase in an envelope addressed to a camera shop in Hong Kong, and dropped it in the mail box. Still have the Topcon Unirex I received back in the mail. Thank heaven I don't have all the camera's purchase since then.
Soooo..... What ... 43 years. Sounds right.

I have a vaguely sketched out path of the sensible intelligent purchases that I will make.
Outside of that there's a whole bunch of things I'd really love to try, this category tends to shift around a little, but a Hexar AF is pretty much permanently on top of the list, despite the fact I'm never satisfied with my results at a 35mm FL (that probably helps me hold off if I'm honest).

I've gone many years without buying anything except film and processing, just not in the past three or four years. This year, my plan is to cut way back on purchases, since I've got enough cameras, lenses, film, and memory cards to do just about anything I can think of.
Except that new Plustek 120 scanner keeps calling.

Just when I think I'm done something else just seems to turn up but I'm definately close!
Longest without buying anything since joining here in 2006 has been approx 6 months and that was because I stopped using rangefinders. I think r/f users seem to get it worse than others

I agree with you. With DSLRs there are so many lenses you can get until you are done and bodies have a large price gap to slow down the gas attack. But this rangefinder thing... constant attack since I caught the bug. I thought I would never spend so much on film cameras and gear but those days are in the past

Hmm its been around a month since my last aquisition does that count?
But its only because some unexpected costs is delaying the buy of a Chamonix 45 N2. On the other hand I don't suffer from neither GAS nor GAD. I can quit anytime
Best regards

Don't know, but I'd guess about 6 months. And that does not include buying bits like straps, filters, finders etc.
I find it easy to justify now, as I'm only using film, so I can tell myself that the gear won't lose value if I buy and sell a lot, and some of gear is pretty cheap (although some not).
In reality I'm rarely making profits on buying/selling, but breaking even or a small loss is OK for me.

There is just something about the anticipation of a new camera or other piece of gear. Seems like I am never totally satisfied and always wanting something different. I used to say to myself "why don't you just use what you have!" But it wouldn't be long before I discovered some other item that I began to lust after!

It all started so innocently, sometime in the early 70's. I expect it to end 1 to 2 days after I die.
