Your thoughts on Nikkor 50/1.8 AI-S Japanese pancake version

Nikon FM2n, AI Nikkor 50mm f/1.8S, Ultrafine eXtreme 400, developed in LegacyPro L110 at 1:31 for 5.5 minutes. Three individual black and white frames shot through Tiffen #25 Red, #58 Green, and #47 Blue filters, respectively, then combined using GIMP to create a trichrome color image.

Beautiful. It is often commented that a good digital file, properly colour corrected, would be just as good - but they NEVER, EVER are. These are just incredibly elegant and nuanced.

That Nikkor is obviously at least better than decent, too.

Thank you, Marty! That's very kind, I appreciate it. I'm glad you like it, because I feel like this one has some weird color casts on the wall that I couldn't get rid of. Some yellow/green in the highlights and some purple/magenta in the shadows. I'm not very good at post-processing color, so it is what it is. In any case, this thread is about the excellent Nikkor anyway, and not my mediocre color editing skills. ;)

The situation that suits colour media best, and multiple filtered exposures worst is large areas of even neutral colours. The light changes very subtly between the exposures. Yes, the wall looks a little weird, but the flowers are just perfect. Beyond what I see done with digital files.

Thank you, really,

Marty

Great shots, as always, dourbalistar. I hope you'll never run out of your favourite film!

Thank you, Sierra Club. Unfortunately, bulk rolls of Ultrafine eXtreme 400 have been out of stock most of this year. Photo Warehouse has slowly been running out of the pre-loaded cassettes, too, and now only the 12-exposure rolls are left. I've resigned myself to the fact that it might never come back in stock. :(

The 0.45m minimum focus distance of this lens really adds to its versatility. Useful for tight detail shots, especially when you're stuck at home and literally looking under your chair for things to photograph.
