$9k in film (split between HP5+ and Portra400)
$9k in dev and drum scans
$2k in ongoing servicing credit

That should keep me and my M2 + 35/f2 Ultron going nicely for a while :)

Leica 50mm F/1.2 Noctilux. I had a chance to buy one for 1000000 Yen. I’ll shoot with it. Not a collector.

If it must be gear, and gear only (not film, development, etc.) I'd probably opt for exotic Zeiss Otus glass of some variety. And to take advantage of it, would need one of the new high-megapixel Sony A7-V. :)

For me...

Leica Q2
Fujifilm GFX-50R
Fujifilm GF 50mm 3.5
FUJIFILM GF 63mm f/2.8
Fujifilm GF 110mm f/2
Leica Standard or 1A with 50mm Elmar 3.5
Rolleicord in MINT condition
Pentax MX with 50mm 1.4 in MINT condition
Voigtlander 50mm 1.2 M Mount
Used Leica M240

-Mamiya 6 kit w/ all 3 lenses
-Rolleiflex FX and assortment of Rolleinars/hood/BW filters
-Leica M10P chrome
-Super Angulon 3.4 (for my film M)
-Tiniest carbon travel tripod I could find

Leica 50mm F/1.2 Noctilux. I had a chance to buy one for 1000000 Yen. I’ll shoot with it. Not a collector.

I owned one in the 70’s. The big advantage of this lens was the lack of flare wide open. You know how you get a ball of fuzz flaring light around a streetlight at night? The f1.2 hardly flares under that kind of light. The V3 Summicron which was made at that time also was almost as good at flare control wide open. Both were a major improvement over the V2 rigid and dual range at flare control at f2.

Of course f1.2 potentially could be an advantage under low light vs an f2 just to get an image on film. There was a big disadvantage to this lens besides cost, size and weight. The lens was just average from f4 down. It performed its best from 1.2-4 and at its best it wasn’t exceptional other than flare co troll. Don’t get me wrong, it produced nice images but wasn’t any better or as good as a Summicron resolution wise from f2-4.

I never owned a v1 or 2 Summikux but felt after buying the 1.2 that the summikux would have been as good or better choice. In reality the No til us carried a very high price for 1/3 stop greater speed. Yes 1/3 stop, the progression of f stops is f 1, 1.1, 1.2 & 1.4. One third stop.

Unless you’re just looking for bragging rights, spend the money on something else. In the end, I owned it for a couple or three years and traded it to Doc McGinnis in Nashville. One of the items I acquired in the trade was a v3 Summicron. No regrets.

I don’t think you’re going to have enough at 20k usd.

I remember looking at a mint one in Tokyo about ten years ago for $10k. With the tax free incentive for tourists I was half way taking my credit out of my wallet but my wife was waiting for me outside and I knew I was going to encounter trouble. Oh well. I’ll take an original black paint M2 and which ever black paint lens I can get for the balance.

leica monochrom, latest body times 2
24mm and 35mm leica lenses...

this would be only if i had to spend on new(ish) gear...i am quite satisfied with my current gear, 2 Xpro3 bodies and enough lenses to shoot whatever i want to.
and i have to admit being surprised at myself for only wanting leica gear cause that fuji medium format is so tempting...

I think I’d get an original 90 Thambar. An old friend of mine years ago had one he’d bought new. They really could make some beautiful images. I know Leica has made some newer ones but I’d like one of the uncoated originals.

With the leftover money, a Cooke series XV and Cooke Knuckler or other classic soft focus view lens like a Pinkham and Smith.

New MP for me. Compact 28, 50, and 90 Leica lenses. Nikon 9000 ED scanner.

If I didn’t have digital body already, would probably change MP to used M10.

Olympus Zuiko 250/2.

Leica M10-R.

Adapter for Olympus OM to Leica.

Light Lens Lab Replica Summicron 35/2 (maybe they have THAT in stock?).

Oh goodness. 20k on gear.

For personal work:
- Leica M10 with Visoflex EVF and grip
or M-P 240 + EVF and grip
- Zeiss Distagon 35mm f1.4 ZM
- Voigtlander 40mm f1.2
- Voigtlander 21mm f1.4
- Voigtlander 75mm f1.4
- batteries
- secondhand Leica Q if there's enough money left (probably not)

Reasoning: The M9 is my favourite digital camera for personal work, so I'd want something robust and relatively future proof. 20k sounds like a lot, but when you look at a M10-R, more than half of that is gone in Australian currency. A M10 or even M-P 240 would suit me fine. I already have other Voigtlander, Leica and Zeiss lenses, and those are the only ones I'd really want.

Sony kit for work:
- Sony A7S III + grip or Sony A7 III + grip
- Sony G Master 24-70mm f2.8 or Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 or Sigma 24-70mm f2.8
- Sony G Master 70-200mm f4 or Tamron 70-180mm f2.8
- Tamron 15-30mm f2.8
- Sony 85mm f1.4 or Zeiss Milvus 85mm f1.4 EF mount plus adapter
- Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art

Round out the rest with a few LED lights, and stands, a Rode Stereo Videomic X, and some more harddrives.

Reasoning: I shoot video and stills for work, mostly video, but more and more stills. I want reliable and fast autofocus for rapidly moving and unpredictable sports, plus high quality 4K video. This unfortunately rules out the Panasonic S1 or S1H, as they can't match the speed and accuracy of Sony A7 III autofocus. The Sony G Master lenses focus the fastest on the A7 III, but I've read that the Tamron lenses are very responsive, too. Most of my work is done with the 24-70, but a holy trinity plus a fast 85 would take care of most situations.

If the EOS R6 works out for video shooting after all, I'd get:

Canon work kit:
- Canon EOS R6 + EF-R adapter
- Canon R 50mm f1.2
- Canon R 24-70mm f2.8
- Canon EF 85mm f1.2
- some more Apurture LED lights and stands, Rode Stereo Videomic X, Rode NTG shotgun mic and boom stand.

I already have the EF 24-105L, 35L and 70-200 f4L, so the R6 plus adapter and those R lenses would fill out my kit perfectly.
