Youxin Ye and Black M3

John, I wonder if you're confusing Takahashi-san at Lumiere with another Takahashi-san in Tokyo who also paints cameras. Its this second Takahashi-san who is known for painting very pretty show cameras with softer paint. I have a feeling the paint jobs by Takahashi-san at Lumiere would be very similar to the paint jobs by Shintaro. Would be fun to compare them one day to find out for sure.

thanks Jon and you are probably correct. Soooo confusing and that's why I get my spray cans out:D
Check out Lumiere's site:eek: there's some superb work on there. He painted the M23 mix ie the original MP replica and it's an amazing job,

I've just checked out Lumiere's prices. Quite expensive. I'd have to buy a reasonably priced chrome body for, say, less than 100k yen in order to justify their pricing!

I really should check out Masa and Shintaro samples.

Anyway, never been to Lumiere. I believe they are in Omori, which is only less than an hour from me. So might check them out on the weekend.

Does Lumiere have a website? I googled but came up with nothing.

Anyone know why he doesn't work on M5's or CL's? That seems odd and peaked my curiosity

I asked him why he didn't service M5s, he said the body type/inner workings are completely different from the other M's so he didn't work on them. He then proceeded to advise me to sell my M5 and get a good user M6 TTL. I politely thanked him then kept the M5 (I love mine).

Honestly.......Don't look

Looks like a paint job would be close to $1150 USD. I wonder what Youxin is asking for the full overhaul. I have a great M3, but too nice to send for a paint job. Still have the top and bottom Robert painted for me.

There is a camera show in Boston this weekend-- you might see him there.

I know Igor is planning on setting up and I think he has some recently acquired stock.

Regards, John

Call me crazy, but I don't think Lumiere's prices are too bad. If I read correctly, for about $1300 (USD), you can have your camera overhauled and painted. If their attention to detail during the CLA is as good as their attention to detail during painting seems to be, it's not such a bad deal....

As an aside, their Hammertone finish looks gorgeous.

Just add that Youxin Ye did a CLA and an Aki covering for me in the 2 week span he promises. The work and communication were superb.

Hey Jon,
Have you seen a Masa repaint? I was considering having one done. I was also thinking about a Lumiere on an M2, but I would like to know what Masa's work is like first.
Mind you, I like the look of the 98,000 yen thank you price for the repaint and overhaul, that is pretty damned good.

I've seen a few Masa repaints. The paint is ok. Perfectly fine for a user. But he's pretty sloppy when it come to disassembly/assembly, repairs and CLA work. I wouldn't let him work on my cameras. I'd strip the camera, send the parts for painting, and reassemble the camera when the painted parts came back. To see what I mean, read the last post in this thread.

I'd much rather pay extra and get either Shintaro or Takahashi-San at Lumiere to do the job if I wanted one of my cameras painted and repaired/CLA'd. Here's a pic of Takahashi-San taken by Shintaro.

Someone may have already mentioned this--but--Youxin just had a real BP M3 on his ebay site--went for $17,600.00.
Wow...!
