Youxin Ye in China Daily

I bought a Leica M4 from him a few years ago. It was on ebay and it was even in better shape than he described. I told him that and he said that he usually rates his cameras a little lower than they actually were. Great guy to deal with. It's really great that this article tells about his past and his expertise. - Jim

Youxin did my M3 a few months ago, and it was an amazing experience dealing with him. I shipped him the cam and my DR on a wednesday, he wrote me on Friday afternoon to say he had the camera and would do the job on both the cam and the lens and ship it to me on Monday. I had the camera back on Wednesday. All this without any money changing hands. He told me to check it out and THEN send him a check! He gets my business from now on!

On Thursday I grab a coffee and China Daily from my normal street stand and open up the Life section. Inside greeting me is a picture of Youxin and an article about how he started repairing Leica cameras. Pretty cool to read about his beginnings.

There is an online version for all who care to read.

Thanks for posting this. Fascinating! I recently had him CLA a Leica IIIF and he did a great job. Didn't know why he became so interested in Leicas...

There is always a reason that drives each of us to do what we do.

Another vote for Youxin Ye. He has my M6 now also, getting the viewfinder upgrade. He is just great to work with. Had my M2 back to me CLA'd in 10 days. Great that he has received this recognition, he deserves it.

Thanks for the link...

Thanks for the link...

...His love for the Leica dates back to his childhood. "I collect Leica cameras partly because my father used to have a Leica IIIC for work and when I think of my father this is one of my brightest memories," Ye says. ...
Touching. Reminds me of memories of my dad's old Kodak folder and the smell of film and photographic equipment.

Youxin worked on my IIIf while we sat at his kitchen table. A very hospitable and nice man.

He's worked on several Leicas for me, including an M4 that was seriously messed up. He replaced an internal gear with an exact replacement he'd had made in China (!) -- better than new. And as for a Leica IIIc such as his father had, he replaced the curtains and the beamsplitter along with the CLA. Unbelievably fast service and really inexpensive considering what he did. I can't speak highly enough of his work and his customer service.

He's really the ONLY person who I've trusted to work on my priceless IIIC K's ~ he has currently my 1945/47 IIIC K Chrome/Sharkskin camera now and it is going through a COMPLETE mechanical overhaul.
