I am back in the saddle again...Almost...
Just bought a Nice Zarja with chrome 26m lens..from Protek Trading Company in the Ukrain. $45.00 Total....looks real clean, almost new
I have a 30mm Pentacon with a M42/L39 adapter I will use as my main lens..
Can't wait...But I have too ....2 weeks or so...
Had to tell someone...Wife is at work till 1am my time.

I would stick with the I26M, if I were you. The Pentacon + adapter will not focus properly on this camera.

What is the problem with the combo on FSU camaras?..I would use DOF scales anyway with this camera. I had a Proper RF Zorki..But the RF arm in the body was always needing tweeking..hence I got the Zarja (Zarya).
Well, if there is a problem, I'll get a J12...Had one earlier.
Is the adapter not the right depth?...I paid close to $20.00 for it.
I know the I26m is a good lens too..The later versions that were made, had the same "L" glass as the I61-L (exellent IQ too)

I have a small shoe mount Vivatar meter I can use too..But, Yes...I wanted a simple 35mm P/S combo with interchangable lens's. One I can carry at waist level and snap off candid shots as I am walking, and not worry about framing or DOF. The Zarja was the best fit.

You will have NO problems.
I've used the Zarya with a 30mm Pentacon with a M42/L39 adapter for years with no trouble. Just make sure that the diaphragm switch is always in the manual/closed position. (it can tend to slip over to auto).

Thanks..Yes, I have the F/stop locking ring on f/22...the diaphram ring works as if there is no locking ring. Thanks for the reminder...forgot about that feature.

If you paid $20 I imagine you have the right adapter and you bought it with the right intent. Therefore there is no problem. I and many others use them. The depth is about 17.8mm. Don't foprget to put the lens in M mode!

I understood you to mean that you intended to use an M42 lens designed for an SLR on the Zarya using an adapter. In that case the combination cannot work because an M42 lens is not designed for the same lens to film distance as a rangefinder lens. In any case use of an adapter would shift the lens further away from the film plane, making the problem even worse.
If I have misinterpreted what you are intending to do then I apologise!

I'd never seen this camera before--I couldn't resist, and bought one on eBay at pretty much the same price. Meterless scale focus street photography is one of my favorite things to do. What a cool, obscure piece of technology!

The flange to film distance for an M42 SLR lens is significantly greater than that for a "Leica" 39 mm thread rangefinder lens so there's no problem at all in making an adapter for this. I have one made by SRB and it works with no problems at all (e.g. Praktica M42 lenses on a Zorki 4K). Obviously you have no rangefinder coupling and the lenses are physically rather large for rangefinder camera but other than that, no issues.
PS. The 30 mm Pentacon lens is just the dressed up (excellent) Meyer Lydith and it has a preset rather than automatic diaphragm. No issue therefore with "Auto/Manual" switches as it doesn't have one!

Hence the need for the adapter.
No. SLR lenses need to be further from the film plane.
The adapter takes the space normally taken by the slr's mirror box.
It works, I've used it.

Well, the lens to flange distance has to be "Increased" to mount on a L39 Rf..The Pentax/Practica has a "Deeper" L/F mount...So as long as the adapter has the correct extention to the L39 mount side...the lens will focus fine..Just no RF coupling (didn't have one anyway). I intend to use the DOF scale for focus anyway,,like f/11 with ISO 200 film..(3' to INF).

I am going to have a piece of leather sewn on the back of the ER case top, so I will have a beltloop on the case back...
Waist/Belt mounted Street Camera circa 1958.
f/11 at 1/250 = 3' to INF.....Turn and shoot and keep walking

Do you know the filter size? 49mm I think..I need a lens hood and filter...I found both. WA hood and filter..just want to be sure before I buy them...From Ebay, not local store.

I have an M42 30mm Pentacon. It takes a 49mm filter. I tried a wide angle lens hood but found that it caused vignetting (on a SLR of course!).

Since it has a wide bevel, it may work. no way to tell until I take a test of a white wall to check out.
