Zeiss 15mm ZM question

They are completely different designs. You can still look up (for now) details on the C/Y lenses on Zeiss' website.

Whoops, the F-distagon is a fisheye lens. Jorge must have the 3.5/15 in mind:

There is a resemblance between the C/Y and ZM versions, the latter probably derived from the former.

Was the C/Y lens really a Schneider design? Any reference to that?

Whichever design it is, I noted the price for that puppy and whoa... pricey.. but then again; other than CV's LTM mount 15.... there is no other game in town.

Dave, it strikes me as a specialty lens, which will probably only be bought by pros who need it for appications to which there is no other solution. That fact alone probably contributes heavily to its very high cost. Oh, yeah, and maybe by a few well-heeled types to whom money is no object will also buy it. But really . . . who would want to carry around such a monster. I don't think that something of this size is why any of us got into rangefinder photography.

I don't have the dimensions at hand, but this Distagon seems to have a 'Noctiluxlike' form factor and weight. I am not (yet?) a Noctilux devotee but I certainly enjoy using the Summilux 75 (another specialty lens, admittedly), although carrying it around is a different story! 😀

Much bigger than a Noctilux, Alec. When Rover & I first saw a prototype at PhotoPlus Expo in New York, he referred to it as "a big bowl of soup." Good description! It's even bigger than the Summilux-M 75/1.4. Here are the dimensions of the 3 lenses in question:

Distagon 15/2.8 = 86 mm (length) with 72 mm filter
Noctilux 50/1.0 = 62 mm (length) with 60 mm filter
Summilux 75/1.4 = 80 mm (length) with 60 mm filter

Jorge, I believe that the ZM 15mm is a new Zeiss design, based on their Cine lens experience. I doubt that they would need to license an old Schneider design.

I don't know . . . If you think this one is expensive @ $3700, Leica's 15/2.8 Super Elmarit-R costs $7000! 😱 And the R-lenses are ususally cheaper than the M's. :bang:
