I have a Leica M5 and a Zeiss Biogon 25 mm f/2.8. I have an external 25 mm viewfinder. What metering area should I be using with this lens and body combination. It is not obvious.
Since the 25 pulls up the 90mm frame lines and there are no 28 frame lines in the M5 you can't really delineate a metering area with any accuracy with that focal length. Even with a 28 the dominant consideration with the TTL meter especially with the M6 and even with the M5 is the influence of the sky. You are better to meter something representative that fills half the camera's VF, at least, or use an incident meter or sunny 16.
