Zeiss 28 or 25mm?!

I use the 25mm more than others because of its super resolution, hardly matched by other lenses.

Here's one example:

Distorsion is so low that photos can be sometimes "flat" for a near ultra wide.
But that shows the technical superiority of the lens.

I'd buy the FL that mkaes sense consdering my other lenses WAY before another that fits less well that has a few more lpmm in the extreme corners. The 28 may not be as strong as the 25 on paper, but dont go thinking you will see it on a print, because at 20x16 from Delta 100, I cant. Well, thats comparing the 28 with the 35 biogon or 21 2.8 (which has an almost identical MTF to teh 25). For goodness sake, don't get a 25, when you would prefer the 28mm FL, just because the 25 is 'sharper'. Thats just plain daft. Nobody is going to wow over the tiny differences in performance with the 25 over the 28. They'll wow over good photos.

Agree with Turtle that if you want an even spread of focal lengths then you should get the 28. I would also value the compactness of a 28 compared to the 25 if that is the case as mentioned above. I have never understood this even spread of focal lengths idea though. There is a huge difference between 21 and 25, and quite a difference between 25 and 28. The subtlety of a 35 is something many shooters never want. Many never use a 50. Having an uneven spread of focal lengths is a logical extension of photographers' preferences. Finally, exploring a new focal length is very instructive, so past preferences should not be the only arbiter.

I cannot say it any better than Turtle did, so I will just repost his response. He makes 100% sense.

FWIW, I have 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, and 35mm & 40mm lenses. Some are Zeiss, some are Leica, some are CV. While I will put one on the camera and shoot with it all day, I still like having all of them. And my choice is always based on field of view, not image quality.
