Great shots Michael. How does the Zeiss compare to the Voigtlander on film? I recently got a Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 V1 and this thread has got me thinking about the zeiss. I've seen comparisons and they are all on digital sensors. As a long time film user, what are your thoughts? strengths and disadvantages? I actually like that the lenses are both big. Most people seem to think that's a negative.

Not answering for Michael, but I have both lenses. CV 35 1.2 v2 and ZM 35 1.4
On film, honestly I cannot tell a difference...

Hi Stompyq, thanks for the message and the compliment. The only difference that I have noticed between the Voigthlander 35mm 1.2 V1 and the Zeiss is that the Zeiss tends to be a little sharper and the colors tend to be warmer with the Zeiss. Yes, they are both considered 'big' lenses by many but I don't see that as a negative either, I have big hands and I like the way that the lenses balance and feel in my hands. I know it's a personal preference to many so I'm not going to get into a debate about it.

Cheers,
Michael

Edit : Huss, thanks for posting, that first photo is awesome

In a controlled direct comparison I'm pretty sure you would see a difference, even on film.

Huss, good to know that both lenses are almost equal in b&w. I shoot mostly color so I guess the differences might be in color rendition and not sharpness.

Thanks, Michael!!! Maybe I will shoot with the Voigtlander for now and see how much I like it. Going back and looking at your older posts I think I see what you mean about the colors. The zeiss looks warmer. Like you I really like that the lens is big. Ergonomically it's the best RF lens I've used. My only complaint is that it does get a little heavy on my M4 if i'm shooting all day with the camera around my neck. Maybe I should get a sling strap

That's the thing, you'd have to take the exact same pic at the exact same time. As for colour warmth and saturation, I don't notice any difference as I process the images the way I want them to appear after they have been taken. So if one is a little too cold, I'd warm it up in LR etc.

I think the Zeiss has less field curvature, so that would help the landscape photographers out there. I really don't do landscape photography with a small format like 35mm, I save that for bigger film.

They are both very nice lenses. I use the CV on my M5 as it is a perfect match size wise, and the ZM on my M7 as it feels as slick as that camera!
I feel these fast lenses really are needed to expand the shooting envelope of film cameras. Digital - just crank up the ISO!

The Howrah Train Station in Kolkata is the largest railway complex in India and has about 2 million people that use it everyday. This is a photo of one of the bathrooms located there.

Yeah, I have had it done to me a couple of times where people would just stare at me while I was going to the bathroom, it's pretty akward.

I woke up really early to get to the fresh meat market to take photos of these chicken sellers, the smell is pretty bad and it can be nauseating but even worse than the smell is walking and slipping around in all of the chicken excrement.

I used to ride these trams all the time back when I lived in Kolkata in 2005, word on the street was that they are phasing them out and from what I can tell, there are already a lot of them off the streets and the tracks are paved over.

At first I thought this guy was dead and I didn't want to take a photo, but then I found out that he was passed out, so I decided to go for it.

I don't think anybody is going to steal this guy's flip flops....haha

Very cool images. I also can recommend Cinestill 800 - I don't bother with a corrective filter as that cast is removed when the images are scanned.
It is also waaaay more expensive than the Kodak 100 film you are using!

Why is that proimage stuff not available in the US? It looks really nice. Btw I hate this thread.Everytime I click on it I want to replace my voigtlander with the zeiss

Jon,

I love the look of those photos with that film. I should really start shootings more of Cinestill 800.

Cheers , Michael

Thanks Michael. Cinestill 800 is the best film/lens combination for night shooting I've ever used. You won't regret shooting more Cinestill 800! No need to bother with a color correction filter when shooting at night either as the film is made for shooting in artificial lighting. The colors above are exactly what I got out of my scanner.
