Question for lucky owners of this lens ... what are your impressions so far of its performance at 1.5? Feel free to compare and contrast to other 1.5/1.4 50s. Photos welcomed of course, thanks.

For the love of pete, tell me this is a horrible lens and I should not even be interested.

first of all, who's pete?
second, i think we all want this lens in our grubby little hands, at least to try it and see first hand what it can do.
and third...well i have no third.
but i am saving for this lens cause i want to keep the 50/2 also.

I agree Joe.
I've seen some test shots, but unable to tell if they were taken at 1.5, which is where this lens' value is highest.

it's a really bad lens that never should have been put in production.. actually, all Zeiss lenses are really bad.. if you find any on the market, please notify me so I can dispose of them properly
I don't know if I have any shots from my Sonnar wide open.. but I suppose I could load up some film and do that this weekend
btw, I think mine is an outstanding performer at all apertures.. here's a shot taken at about f/5.6

had my eye on the sonnar too, been waiting on my hands for samples to show up before I buy though...so far im not so impressed with the out of focus area, I shoot a lot of wide open so thats important for me. The out of focus areas look kinda rough to me compared to my now well used yashica gsn's lens which I think has great out of focus areas. Just waiting for more shots now...

IMHO, it would be interesting to see a comparison between "old " CZ Sonnar 50/1.5 and "new" ZI Sonnar 50/1.5, both at full. mid and low apertures.
No doubt, tne new one should be great, but anyway the old type (judged by today´s standards) wasn´t a bad performer, isn´t it?

ya know, it just occurred to me that Tom was asking for samples from the new Sonnar.. the photo I shared is from a classic lens.. circa somewhere around 1960.. sorry for my senior moment

Hey Brett,
I was asking for the new sonnar at 1.5, but it is nice to have the old one to compare and contrast with
FWIW, I like the OOF of that shot at 5.6.
