Zeiss 85mm F/4 Tele-tessar T*

I have used it briefly and it is good - even at f4. I have not put a large amount of film through it though. I suspect that the 90mm f3.5 Apo Lanthar is at least as good as the Zeiss - and considerably cheaper at that.
The Teletessar is nice and compact - but the hood does not reverse which makes it a bit bulky as a "pocketable" lens.

Like the Apo Lanthar, which I have, this is in the tradition of the Elmar 90/4. A relatively slow lens, but small and light and optically respectable.

Thanks a lot for your feedback! I've ordered the lens from www.popflash.com and hope to receive it next week.

so it IS in stock!!!

i want this lens but it may have to wait till the fall.

To add to the discussion:

I called both Robert White (in the UK) and a big local camerashop (in NL) and both have no cue when the lens will become available.

Also, on the Zeiss website you cannot order it online as yet.

Silver 85mm F4.0 is here...

Silver 85mm F4.0 is here...

Silver 85mm F4.0 is here but Black is still unavailable at this time.

I would like to hear about and see examples from the new lens. The OP asked about the lens itself and I think we should give people a chance to see it first.
I appreciate the people who have made other choices, but there will be plenty of other thread to compare and vaunt other options.

I briefly handled the Tele-Tessar 85/4 at the PIE expo in Tokyo recently. It was lighter and more compact than I was expecting.

Looking forward to seeing some sample shots!
