I just purchased a ZI 35/2 Biogon and hound that they're using a 43x0.75mm thread vs. the 43x0.50mm thread B+W and others use for their filters, which of course means they don't fit.
What brand filters work on these lenses?
A bit frustrated and looking for a solution. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forum Gerald. Are all B+W 43mm filters 0.5mm pitch?
I thought 0.75 was the norm. Anyway Hoya makes 43mm at 0.75 pitch. I'm a fan of both B+W and Hoya.

As far as I can tell, B+W (my usual) and Heliopan are both 43x0.50 exclusively, although I'm waiting for word back from Schnieder to see if the B+W can be gotten custom in the right thread.
Hoya would be my second choice, although I haven't been able to find HMC filters in 43mm, just plain ones ( I can live with that if I HAVE to..
Thanks for the information and for the welcome. Been lurking a bit here lately absorbing the information waiting for funds to add a lens to my M6 finally (starving student thing).
Thanks again..

Gerald, I have a B+W 43mm UV here that I use on a CV lens. It's box marking is 43 (not 43E) 010M 23185.
I think its a 0.75 pitch filter.

That helps. My box is marked 43x0.5MRC (not 43E either), but does list the thread pitch as 0.5. Perhaps not having the pitch listed marks it as a .75 pitch.
Good information, thanks..

Gerald one last thing. The reason I said "not 43E" is that I have a 43mm B+W med. yellow that will not screw onto the CV lens but fits quite nicely on my 50mm Summilux. I'm pretty sure that is a 0.5 pitch filter.
FWIW the markings on that box are 43E 022 70528.

Summilux is a 0.5 pitch, that part I do know for sure. Could be that the E is a factor, or could just be the part number (yours was B+W part# 23185 and mine is part#40228). Just checked the B&H site again (who I got it from) and they're listing the 23185 part number as the one I ordered, which isn't the one I got. At least that would mean it's going to be their cost to replace it with the right one (hopefully).

The "E" that you are referring to in "43E" simply equates to diameter. OK well its not a literal translation...I think that would be durchmesser...but the E is equivalent to the drafting sign of an O with a / through it. OK well hope I'm making some sense here...
Cheers!

Talked to an old friend that used to be an engineer at BMW, and brought up the E question, he said it does just mean diameter.
But, B&H definately did send me the wrong part, so with any luck, they'll take care of it nicely.

Has anyone been able to mount filters on their new zm lenses and what were they, it would be a shame to find that the system complicates itself out of usefulness...

B+W lists both 43x0.5 and 43x0.75 as available sizes in their online filter catalogue.
43x0.75 listed as "Digital Pro" whatever that is...

Hi and welcome to the forum pixclixer!
Hopefully the papers that arrive with the Zeiss lenses specify the filter requirements exactly...

Lens specs. on the ZI web site, indicate filter size and thread.

I've a Pentax 43mm orange filter (Pentax # 35643) that fits perfectly on the Zeiss Planar 50mm/2 ZM lens, which has the same M43x0.75 filter ring/bayonet as the Biogon 35mm/2 ZM. Pentax has their filters SMC multicoated, the closest thing th the Zeiss T* multicoating. Yellow, orange and red Pentax Filters for Black and White are available, but B & H Photo lists no skylight, clear or UV filter, which is odd. I hope some will find this helpful.

The B+W catalog I checked online shows only the .75 pitch for a 43mm filter, so my guess is that .75 is the standard with .5 a special. I have (2) 43mm B+W filters that fit my Zeuss 35mm/f2 fine.

I have both B+W MRC and Heliopan SH-PMC 43mm UV filters, and as well CV, Zeiss ZM and Leica lenses with the E43 filter requirements.
The B+W I bought at B & H, mfg part # 66023185 which is the 0.75 pitch... but turned out to be 0.50. I bought the Heliopan from Photofilter.com... and it gets curiouser, and curiouser: the Heliopan fits *all* the lenses. The B+W fits the Leica 0.50 like a glove, but not the CV, nor Zeiss(CV).
I suspect "some" vendors will ship whatever 43mm filter they have. And as for the Heliopan fitting all lenses... B+W should learn this trick!

As an update, finally got a proper B+W MRC filter for the Biogon. Had to special order it from a local shop. The part number B&H lists is correct, but they sent the 0.50 thread pitch unit out twice (with major hassles returning it) which carries a different part number, but they don't seem to care too much.
So final verdict, B+W DOES make a filter that fits (it's considered by them to be the standard thread filter, although they make more of the 0.50 pitch ones apparantly).
43mm filters are apparantly one of those ones where everybody used their own thing with no real standard.

Gerald, just to confirm, the B+W UV filter that you got from B&H ordering from this page is mfg part # 66023185 and is a 0.50 thread pitch?
If you can confirm that I will order one.

The 23185 part is the 0.75 pitch filter, but when I ordered it B&H sent me the 0.50 pitch part (actual B+W part number 40228). According to the guy who finally refunded my return shipping and their shipping costs, the stockroom is run by "a bunch of idiots". If you were to order the same part, I don't think you'd have any guarantee of getting the 0.50 or the 0.75 pitch parts, it would just be a crap shoot.
