Ladies and Gentlemen,
In reference to the new Zeiss RF that's going to be coming out at some point in the future, there has been some discussion of how they should name the camera. Purely out of curiousity, I'd like to know what people think.

Ah, false presumption here.. It can be debated whether this act of intelligence is prevalent amongst those reading this thread, let alone those clicking one of the boxes above :)

All in all, it doesn't really matter, as long as the pictures come out right..

Call it a Contessa, a Super Ikonta or whatever.....Zeiss Ikon was a company that made cameras and not really a brand/model name. :eek:

This is only a recent development in the history of Nikon.

Besides, following this logic, the camera should use the maker's name Nippon Kogaku, instead of the company using the camera's name Nikon. Ever wonder why they still call their lenses Nikkor? :p

And Zeiss Ikon the company has been defunct for the past 30+ years - and still is.

Nikon has been a brand since the late 1940s, when Nippon Kogaku made the decision to produce a consumer camera system to sell to American occupation troops. The camera was always known as "The Nikon" and when I'm out photographing my kids soccer games or what not, it's not unusual for parents to tell me they also have "a Nikon" that they bought years ago and have kept because of its quality. The model is irrelevant (often it's an old F or F2). The fact that it is a Nikon equates to quality.

Anyway, Zeiss made so many different kinds of cameras that they diluted their brand name. Still, Contax has survived the consumer consciousness to be equated with quality. They ought to straight out call it the Zeiss Contax.

Yes, but how long has Nikon been a company? Nippon Kogaku dates back from WWI (that's right, the first one). When did it become Nikon? Some time in the 1980s, AFAIK. That's what I call "recent in its history."
 
It already has a name.

If they are thinking of changing it there is one name which is always appropriate, Ralph.

And if they introduce a companion model, it would be the Zeiss Alice?

(The Alice might be a good basis for a NASA model...)
 
Ralph? Zeiko? All of a sudden I am thinking of the way Graham Chapman from Monty Python would charge onto the set of a skit dressed as an British officer and shoo everyone away by shouting "Quite right, too silly!"

BTW, Zeiko looks too much like Zuiko, a name I never figured out how to pronounce.
