Hello there, last spring I picked up a zeiss ikon voigtlander vitessa 500 ae and I have a few questions about it, wondering if anyone could help, as I'd love to take this camera on my travels!
As I mentioned I got this camera a year ago, I've only recently been able to get batteries in it (I never gave up on it even though I learned the required batteries are out of production) by using C3032, two nickels, and a bit of hemp wick. Now the greenish yellow light up top lights with the battery tester and only sometimes with the shutter release button. However it seems the light meter does not change, and the exposure counter indicator does not move. I know the camera functions, and would function without batteries too. Last night I accidentally popped open the back while fiddling it with while a roll of film was loaded, so having already already exposed the film to light I decided to sacrifice it and hit the shutter and advance a couple times, everything works. Has anyone had experience with the light meter/exposure counter not working or advice to get it working? Is it possible that the battery voltage is not strong enough to assist these functions, yet strong enough to light the simple battery test light?? These are functions I could live without, but it would be nice to have the exposure counter. How would I know when the film roll is through without it?
Also, what is the purpose of the red and white window underneath and to the slight left of the exposure counter? I noticed that when I opened the back with film, when advanced the film sprockets help rotate the red and white rolly thing for lack of better word. What's it do?
Thanks for any help!
