Now, I know its not a proper RF, but someone might be able to help me, I brought this off ebay earlier this year and have been using it for B&W film, the leather bellows are fine and now I have learnt manual double exposure prevention, I am ok using it.

My question is this, sometimes after laying up for a week the shutter will not release using the body release and I have to flick the cocking lever across. I have have had the front cover off and cleaned it with Lighter fluid, but it still plays up. Is it possible that the "spring" that returns the cocking lever is worn out? If I cant resolve this it will become a paper weight!

My other question about this 6X9 is whether I can fit a wide angle lens on it, forexample I would like to stick and 65mm on it, has anyone ever done this. If not I will just go out and buy a Fuji 690iii 65mm

I also use a Super Ikonta 513 6X6 which works fine although the focus wheel is a bit stiff!!!

I had a Nettar just like the one you mention.

My guess is that the spring in the shutter release is rusty. I'd try applying some WD40 to that spring using a toothpick or asmall screwdriver so not to spray it all over.

Other guess is that there is some grease still stuck in the shutter release mechanism. A Nafta flush like you didi helps bringing those back but somethimes there maybe just a little tiny bit still there.

Thanks, I am not 100% certain which spring you are reffering to so when I get time I will strip and take some pics and put them online.

I have not seen any rust in there, I have only had the front cover off htough, and the machined plate uderneath it to reveal the inerds, I will persevere with the lighter fluid/WD40 and I am getting some Eclipse today so I will try some of that too.

I have a prewar compur shutter which I disassembled and cleaned completely with different solvents and lubricated lightly. It still does the same as you say: if i don't use it for a few days, the slow speeds(1, 1/2. 1/5 s) will not release for 2-3 times, have to push the lever with my finger... After that it starts to work okay.

I guess it's just too old, the springs are not strong enough anymore, or some metal parts are marred too much and they don't slide as they should...

I have a prewar Compur belonging to a Voigtländer Virtus.
When I got the camera back in 1980, it was dirty and the shutter was firing at random.
The main problem was that the camera was stored in a humid place, where it developed some rust inside the shutter. At the time i had it, it was dry fortunately.
I used compressed air (from a can) and blowed it several times (front and rear lens assemblies were set aside). After that, the shutter started to work again. Later some drops of lighter fluid and very few drops of WD 40 aplied with a toothpick did the miracle.
The shutter worked fine since then.

AFAIK, to use a different lens on a fixed lens foldable camera, you must modify the bellows arrangement to acomodate the shorter focal lenght. In other words, you must modify the whole bellows folding/extension levers to make the bellows shorter than before, or make it fixed and forget about folding it back again. Not to mention that the new lens plus shutter cost woud exceed that of the camera or the cost of a new camera.
I think that is not worth the trouble.
