Has anyone seen the Zeiss Planar 50mm f2 in stock new or available used at reasonable prices? Every store seems to be backordered (even Zeiss'!), so any available ones are ridiculously expensive.

Apparently Zeiss is doing this whole lens building thing as a hobby. Every once in a while they slap a few together, but not enough to be accused of being truly in business doing it.

Kind of like Leica...

I think Zeiss probably sells more SLR lenses these days so they maybe put their efforts into that.

Well I'm flush with 50's. I would gladly consider an offer on a clean silver zm planar. The lens is incredibly sharp and contrasty.

Mine is only $4000... 😀

Seriously though: could it be that Germany gets pereferential deliveries by Zeiss/Cosina? I'm asking because every time I read about shortages in the US, I'll check my favorite German online dealers and invariably find the lens(es) in stock.

Van Bar in Melbourne have a black one and a few other ZMs and a lot of ZFs on display. All new stock, as six weeks ago all but one in that cabinet were damaged by water from the roof.

How is the ZM 50 F1.5 @ F2 compared to the ZM 50 F2 wide open?

If it is on par, I might trade up, sell my 50/2.
