I found a Zeiss Opton 85/2 with that strange TF or FT coating mark...
Does anyone know what it means ?

I have an Opton 85/2 with the same engraving. I have wondered if this strange engraving, in place of the red "T" had something to do with the copyright battle that was taking place in the early 1950s. If it is a misengraving, it is a very precise one. Really looks like someone intended to make an "F" given the unbalanced stroke at the top of the engraving- not at all like a balanced crossbar of a "T"

There was a discussion in ZICG about this in May 07. Also exists as "red crossed T". There doesn't seem to be consensus about what it means.

it's ot an engraving mistake, since there are a (very) few other lenses around... and it doesn't seem to be a patent issue since there are also some Jena lenses with that mark...

Some say that it should be a special lens formula (softer or sharper...)... but I won't open it to see what is going on...
