I'm considering to purchase a zeiss ZM 50/2 or a 50/1.5 (maybe with a lens hood) to be used as my all-round lens. I'm wondering if it will fit inside my Bessa Camera Case VC-1 or do I need a bigger one? I like more carrying the camera with a case rather than only lens cap. It seems that the 50/1.5 has larger diameter than 50/2 but again 50/2 is a bit longer than 50/1.5.

I have never seen those lenses and so don't know how their size will compare for instance to jupiter-8? I do know that my CV 35/2.5 PII with LH-4 hood fits and also my jupiter-8 fits easily inside my VC-1 case.

try this link for the C-Sonnar 1.5/50

and this link for the Planar

It is interesting that more recent information on Zeiss lenses (e.g. the new 4.5/21) can be found on zeiss.com and not on zeissikon.com. A member of the Zeiss Ikon sales team, however, told me last week that they currently update their website.

With respect to the lensshade: the C-Sonnar has 46mm, while the Planar has 43 mm, i.e. you cannot use the lensshade of the Planar (or the 35mm Biogon). But it should be available soon.

sorry - seems that the links I've posted don't work.

The information can be found on http://zeiss.com/photo => then Zeiss Ikon System => there you will find technical data sheets for the 50 mm lenses you are interested in.

Thanks, that sonnar really looks small and seem to be 6mm shorter than planar. The hood might be quite big.

I still haven't decide wich one to buy. 50/1.5 is quite compact and fast but I like the results that I have seen from planar.

I would go for the sonnar just because its a 1.5 and not a 2, and because I like the sonnar signature better but thats just me. For that money the sonnar is awsome, im quite interested in it myself

I took a couple pictures of the 50/2 ZM and the 50/1.5 side by side. Too bad I don't have the f*$#ing cord for this cheapo digital camera or I'd post them! :bang:

The 50/1.5 isn't a whole lot shorter when you look at them side by side, but it feels a lot smaller when its actually on the camera. I prefer it's size to the 50/2.

As far as the lens fitting in the Voigtlander case, I will mount both lenses to the ZI and put it in my brother's CV case this weekend (if he comes home from his dorm). It most certainly won't fit with hood attatched, and I'm almost positive that the 50/2 won't fit, but the 50/1.5 just might.

Yes, that would be great. I think we don't have any zeiss dealer here, so I need to order the lens from abroad without seeing it before.

Alright, here are some side by side shots to show the size...

50/2 Planar with Voigtlander hood attatched, which as far as I can tell is exactly the same as the Zeiss hood.

Hope these help.

Yeah, its not that much smaller side by side. However, it does feel smaller. I prefer its size over the Planar.

Not yet, I'm hoping to shoot them tomorrow. I've been slacking on photography, but I've been busy with school.
