Thank you all for your great support.

As a member if the price is close, I would support popflash.

if I was back in the states i would buy from popflash no questions asked, there is something about the big dealers that doesn't strike me well

PopFlash and Tony took care of a 28 Biogon with a wobbly front element for me--all within 2 weeks & No Questions Asked! Very good service! Would definitely shop at PopFlash--the price is usually right and the service is great!
Thanks Tony!

I'd recommend Tony to anybody, whether in the US or not.

Have purchased several items from him now in the last year, and every time have been extremely satisfied. Shipping to Australia has been no problem, and items usually get here within 5 working days.

Last item I purchased was a 28mm Biogon, unfortunately only 2 days before the price went down :bang: It took only 4 days from when I put in the order to the item arrived safely here in Australia.

So, please buy from Tony rather than the big stores. I know I will.

How reputable is Popflash? I am in the market for a silver ZI camera and 3 ZM lenses: 25, 35, 50.

I have been always supporting my local store B&H and pay my sales taxes. Because of this thread, I browsed through Popflash and find that the Zeiss RF prices are rediculously low, comparing to the current reduced price at B&H. I estimate I can save at least 15-20%!!!

ZI camera: . . . . . . . . . .$1197 . . . . . (B&H $1341 + 8.65% tax)
ZM lenses: . . 50/2 USA . $659 . . . . . . (B&H $659 + tax)
. . . . . . . . . . .35/2 . . . . .$657 . . . . . .(B&H $835 + tax)
. . . . . . . . . . .25/2.8 . . . $777 . . . . . .(B&H $923 + tax)

Questions:
1. Not considering sales tax, the PopFlash 50/2 USA is at same price as the one at B&H. Does the other 2 lenses (35 & 25) without the words USA attached are grey market?
2. If my guess about grey market at 1. is true, then the Zeiss Ikon camera at $1197 is grey too?

I have been using grey makret Nikkor and Canon lenses for years. No problem. I would be a bit careful with grey camera.

BUT, it bothers me when looking at the ZI camera descriptions on Popflash: http://www.popflash.com/index.php?p=product&id=1200&parent=1

Weight: 5.00 lbs !!!???

I would appreciate your experiences with PopFlash, good or bad. Thanks.

Steven

Steven,

Tony at PopFlash is one of the good guys. Even if it is grey market, he will take care of you MUCH BETTER than any store like B&H. You get personal attention and actual care about your satisfaction.

Buy with confidence from PopFlash.

I have bought A LOT from Tony.

Best,

Ray

I highly recommend Popflash. I dealt with them many times and I am very pleased with their service. I also bought many things from B&H and they are also very reputable.
However, I prefer Popflash because of more personalized service.

Good luck,
Zoran

p.s. 5lb can only be a typo.

tony is great to deal with.
i agree about calling or emailing him, great communication and service like the old days.

I've been in the market for a rangefinder and have been considering a black ZM and either a 50mm Planer or 35mm Biogen among other options. I'm now strongly consdering ordering a body and a lens from PopFlash with the price reduction.

Any advice on which lens? 50mm Planar or 35mm Biogen? Do I have to buy the lens shade separately?

I guess the downside with popflas is that I'd have to ship everyting to California if I had any problems. I live on the East Coast.

I have not purchased much from Tony, but I did by a ZI body and the 50/2 lens from him a little over a year ago, I almost got a used M6 from him as well, but someone beat me to the punch. First rate operation, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.

I am from NYC; same situation as you. The lens shade is sold separately. Price also reduced too (at least at B&H. I haven't check Popflash).

Shipping back to merchant for problem is one of the drawback from buying online. That's why a reputable (online) merchant is extremely important, at least from my perspective. I will never buy from the crooks, even if they are 90% cheaper.

35 or 50? It depends on what you shoot. A lot of new RF users start with 35 first, rather than 50, which is the usual first prime lens for new SLR user.

My 2cents.
