It's official now. Zeiss website has lifted the veil. It shows ZE .
It's time to speculate about the range to be introduced.

I'm told that there's a nice selction of the current excellent range of slr lenses, and they are on order...

That would make the most sense from a financial and production standpoint.
So why are people always anxious to use other lenses on Canon bodies? What's wrong with Canon lenses?

What's wrong with Canon EOS lenses?? Mainly some of their primes?? Many of their optical designs have not been updated since the late 80's and it shows.

I read some speculation recently (it might have been in UK mag Amateur Photographer) that Zeiss lenses for the Olympus E 4/3rds system are on the cards.

I use 50's most of the time, all of canon 50mm lenses have some glaring problem, and all of them are because of stupidity and lazy design work. My 50 1.4's focus ring is like sandpaper hence completely useless, not to mention that the focus jams all the time, the inner barrel with the lens elements drags on the outer barrel and there is a rub mark to show and on top of that if I stick a UV filter on the end of it the lens refuses to auto focus at all, too much weight on the end of the lens....from a UV filter!!!
Need I go on?

I like my 50 1.4, but you're absolutely spot on about the focus ring. It feels as though you've just come back from a trip to the beach and rolled it thoroughly in the sand before leaving. The only problem with offering the Z series lenses in ef mount is that I'll be tempted to buy some of them.

Canon focuses almost all of their effort into making impressive, but large and (sometimes) slow, zooms. Their primes, as has been mentioned, are very old designs. The do make some exotic "L" class primes, like the 35 f/1.4 and 85 f/1.2, but they are huge and very expensive.
I've been using a 5D for a while now with the 24-105 f/4 L and the 17-40 f/4 L. While image quality is very good, these are huge lenses, and slow. I'm very excited about the idea of Zeiss primes.

I also love my 5D + 50 f1.2 L but it is bulky and the viewfinder on the ZI is just soooo lovely. Also the 50 planar renders very nicely and in a different way to the Canon.
I hated the cheap Canon 50 f1.8 and was not very impressed by the 1.4 either.

One could ask this question of Leica M users as well.

If it is Canon EF mount, I am sure they will offer the 18mm, 25mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm (f1.4 and Macro), 85mm, and 100mm. Perhaps a 16-35mm f2.8 zoom may creep in as well.
However, at what price ? It's not like the Canon primes weren't expensive enough.
The 85mm f1.2 L is superb as is the 35mm f1.4 L, 24mm f1.4L, and 50mm f1.2 L. Based on the ZF's, it would be hard to meet what the Canon L's already have to offer.
Regardless of how wonderful these new ZE's may be, the market for manual focus Canon primes will be limited.
Why give up canon USM and semi-decent L quality for a more expensive ZE when a CY with adapter is available.

My friend had the same problem with the Canon Service Center. His 17-55 was giving him Er99 on his 30D body. He sent it to them and they replied it was within spec!!! That person should be taken out and shot in a quiet alley...
